Move the Panthers to Raleigh started following Smitty goes off on CLT on WFNZ

I was listening to SS on The Kyle Bailey Show yesterday, and he went off on Charlotte fans for them being down on XL and the team in general. Called Charlotte a “weak ass” city. I kind of get his POV as he saw it personally as a player, but damn, the fans can only handle so much losing. And yes, I am aware of my username, but I do actually like Charlotte fwiw He speaks on it around the 8 minute mark.

So, just what is it that makes a QB "elite"?
Gapanthersfan replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
Exactly. Elite QBs can get dropped on to any team and instantly make them contenders. Josh Allen with Tet, Coker and Chuba and last year’s o line? Imagine a QB who could throw a dart 35 yard to those guys. Gives the defense a rest and this team would be at worst .500 this season with legit playoff aspirations for next season. -
The OL looked OK when the Cardinals were in prevent. Last drive, they man handled our OL. Zavala is not an NFL starter.
-
What do you make of CJ having a lower QBR currently than Bryce while also sitting at 0-2. That’s the guy you wanted right?
-
Hate to tell you this, but we are the Browns. Since the hot start to 2018, we are now 30-71. We’ve averaged 5-12 for soon to be 7.5 years. No playoffs for soon to be 8 years. Right now we are tied with Atlanta for the second worst playoff drought (Jets first). We are firmly tied for 2nd place since the 4th place teams are 3 fewer years.
-
I’m sure current Dan Morgan would be an instant upgrade.
-
It’s not his fault because he’s got a southern accent and he’s tall. Ask any NFL talent evaluator worth his salt and he’ll tell you those are the two most vital metrics for a WR. This effort, rote running, catching, bullshit is meaningless. And he doesn’t drop passes anyway. Young either throws them too hard or too soft. T-Mac didn’t play any better than XL Sunday, anyway, which is proof it’s not XL’s fault.

Wow. Much great thread. Very informative. Would read again.

He certainly fits their mold...
-
I disagree. He showered up to the Panthers still a diva thst was brought in to save Rhule and be a franchise QB. He left how he is now in Tampa. He had a huge ego in Cleveland and it's documented how bad it was. Both can be true and would explain why someone that talented looked so bad here. Even Sam had a resurgence under Wilks when they switched to small ball with running being the first option vs be a franchise QB and save us that was Rhule's MO. Scared straight if you will.

We were a total shitshow last season, and it appears we did nothing in an entire off season to address it. That warrants booing and fan anger and apathy this early in the season. Honeymoon has been over with this regime.

XL is a social media influencer masquerading as an NFL player, IMO. I think he is far more passionate about that poo than he is football. I think it shows on the field.
-
lol right. If XL is Shenault, he won’t be in this league long lol.

So, just what is it that makes a QB "elite"?
CRA replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
elite is Peyton Manning walking into Denver in 2013. That's elite. Thomas (best season was 500 yards), Eric Decker, Brandon Stokely and no name TEs all paired up w/ a meh backfield. With John Fox overseeing the O. THAT is a very bad offensive situation. But that was also a top 5 O with a QB leading the NFL in comp % and top 3 in TDs. elite QBs fix the bad. Now Peyton was a comical example of it. But if Peyton can do that.....a good QB could muster average offense in Carolina last year and this year. -
I would push back on the idea that Newton came into a dumpster fire. He came into a team with solid bones/talent that needed a retool, which we did. I promise you, had we plopped prime Cam into the mess that was our organization that Bryce arrived into, we certainly still wouldn't be talking about playoffs. Far better results, no doubt, but that is an easy bar to clear.
-
Forget route running, blocking, drops for a second. During our hurry up drive, the team was hustling to the line to get the next snap and XL was just strolling back from his last route like he was walking in the park on a Saturday afternoon. That poo’s infuriating. It’s effort and awareness; no excuse for being that casual.
-
You’re right. I was thinking of the GB game with the silly reach for the goal line when he wasn’t close that turned into a goal line fumble. I do remember all the discussions in here about end of the game interceptions and bad passes, etc. but that wasn’t against the Chiefs. That said, still the best season by a QB since Cam. Best 4 game run was Darnold to start 2021, but best full season was Teddy. That makes me really sad.
-
Agreed. I think they never seriously considered him an option even though he was/is miles better than Darnold. I think the ego stuff was massively overplayed. He was played for the Browns, a disaster organization, and he accomplished more than they have in years. He came here to another diaster organization that happened to be worse than Cleveland and he didn't succeed. But, how could he? Frankly, who the fug could? I think our general fanbase really underestimates how terrible this organization truly is. It can nuke anyone. poo, you see how Stroud is struggling with a damn good Texans team? Can you imagine how bad he would be here in our circumstances?? He can thank his lucky stars we made the choice we did.
-
I think the vast majority of QBs only thrive or die based on their situations. But some are capable of making everyone else around them better in a way they redefine, or at least elevate, those situations. And some of the former group also just never will really have "it" when the moment matters. So far it feels like Bryce either needs the perfect situation or he just doesn't have "it". I suppose we'll get the season to see if that changes, but to call me skeptical is an understatement.
-
Guys, be patient with XL. Sure, he’s shown absolutely nothing and doesn’t know where to like up or seem to care, but it’s OK because reasons. It’s the quarterback’s and coach’s fault he can’t run routes or catch. He got hit hard once and everyone knows, no WR has ever had a good game for the remainder of their career once they get lit up once in a game. Besides, no WR could ever put up decent numbers in this offense. Just please ignore Thielen and T-Mac.

Little different perspective. Biggest draft bust ever has to be the Hornets trading away Kobe Bryant immediately after drafting him.

REPORT: Panthers signing a new MLB
kungfoodude replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am beyond this idea of "development" with the Panthers. It just hasn't really happened here often enough and most of these "high potential, very raw" guys have just been flat busts for us. Wallace should have been on the pine for 2-3 years. And maybe at a place that actually DOES develop those type of players. -
Frank to me was an offensive variant of Fox and Rivera. Frank being as bad as he was, wasn't because of Frank. It was a front office who didn't give him the basic blocks he needed to be the boring middle of the pack coach he was. when Frank's folks started going on TV and lobbying for what a Frank QB was going into the draft......that was the first warning flag. One day, years from now, like with all dysfunctional teams we will find out who actually stood on what side of the Bryce decisions before the company line of we "all agreed on Bryce" came out.
-
Baker's ego after his rookie year was a problem. He showed up here with it dented but we killed that for him. The rest I agree with.
