Should Canalas bring someone else in to call offensive plays?
strato replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
That generally happens when the coach is on the hot seat and on the way out. Having a hard time thinking about where a guy was forced to change and he wasn’t out the door not that long after. They ain’t firing him, they ain’t looking at firing him. Morgan actually said it was something that would be discussed but I felt like he wanted it to be Canales’ decision. Which goes to my question of how do you insert a guy etc… maybe they figure it out. -
iirc they sent 2 picks to the the Saints for this guy, indicating to me they will give him a longer deal. However, it would be fun to watch the Saints fans when they hear we got him.
-
It made me feel a little better about that 4th year, but he was getting it regardless. I believe. He will always be limited. But if he can raise his floor to match what he has done that passes for good on the Bryce grading curve, I could tolerate it. I might be lying. I want a guy that can force anybody to respect the passing game.

Crazy that we might have made it a little further if we had Thielen playing over XL with T-mac and Coke as the primary guys

Mike Kaye’s take: 2026 NFL free agency predictions
L-TownCat replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
No he doesn’t. Making the occasional play while being a complete liability on every other snap is a bananas way to remain a starter. Keeping him only allows Evero to continue to ignore the position for the upgrade you mention. Hes a stop gap at best and should be someone else’s problem.- 29 replies

Mike Kaye’s take: 2026 NFL free agency predictions

This is why Tillis is here and we need him to get over this transitional hump. We still have many weaknesses that need to be resolved in FA and the draft. Icky being out in ‘26 makes it harder to navigate….especially with Moton’s tenure coming to a close in the next couple years and Icky’s payday on the horizon. I would much prefer Linderbaum over Mayes or Corbett, just curious if we can afford it. Same goes for DL. We had Milton almost locked up but settled for Wharton. I wonder if we look to this again this offseason as it’s clear DB needs better talent beside him in the trenches. I don’t want to waste his prime.- 29 replies

There has been a fair amount of talk about him retiring. This was his 14th season I think. Might want to look elsewhere at other options.
-
That is a huge point of contention with me. The assets brought in for him, those guys got none of that, and no time either. I mean we are going 4 years here all in. And still don’t know that the floor can be raised.

As critical as I've been of Evero. The Panthers defense went from league worst giving up the most single season points in NFL history to middle of the pack. And we have significantly more resources including the highest salary cap % to the OL in the league tied up in the offense which finished 27th in total yards per game. The amount of smoke Evero is getting should be nothing compared to the heat Canales should be getting. Truthfully if we're trying to push one out the door we should be pushing both.

Carolina Panthers pick No. 19-2026 NFL Draft
Soul Rebel replied to PantherBoy95's topic in Carolina Panthers
Styles should be the pick if available. I know Allen is the consensus LB3, but I’m all in on the Texas LB, Anthony Hill Jr. Whether it’s at 19 (I think he moves up after the combine) or if we trade back a bit and add more picks, Inthink he can wear the dot for us. I also wouldn’t be opposed to a swing tackle that can help reinforce our future RT spot. I do think Mauigoa can fill in at LT in ‘26 but be our long term solution at RT for Moton. Good teams plan ahead for aging vets, especially on the OL. Who knows, maybe Icky turns out to be a better RT post-surgery. He’s rarely ever played the position but his strengths and build have always screamed RT. -
Prevent defense prevents you from winning!

David Tepper who completely went out of his way to wax poetic to anyone that would listen about how generational of a talent Bryce Young was once upon a time is still very much reeling from the trade to #1 and everything that it cost compared to the returns. And you can bet your ass he's very sour seeing the combination of the #1 pick we traded and DJ Moore winning a playoff game in an NFL city that is anything but a breeze to be successful in. Add in the egg he has on his face from having both Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield on the roster and seeing them have success elsewhere and you get what you get now which is David Tepper hellbent on keeping the Bryce Young experiment going until the very bitter end.

ESPN rookie class rankings (Panthers 5th)
SmokinwithWilly replied to Peon Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bet I know why the Saints got the #1 spot. -
He also seemed much happier on the field this year than last. I think all in all, he just likes the Chargers organization and being on the west coast.

KA plays mostly in the slot and the 3rd down option and receives most of the short yardage work whereas Coker and TMac stretches the field. Having Keenan Allen is like having a more versatile tight end
-
These are the two big moves I’d make for the offense. We need more vets for slot & TE. We’ve drafted enough young guys at this point for a young game manager QB. Seattle gave a 4th & 5th this year for him, so not sure they’d let him go easily. That being said, he is the ideal FA slot that fits perfectly between TMac & Coker.

Carolina Panthers pick No. 19-2026 NFL Draft
shaqattaq replied to PantherBoy95's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've seen a lot of people mocking him to the lions at 17, so we may need to leapfrog them unless he slips a little. -
Nice to see the Panthers at #5. 3 NFC South teams in the top 6, with Saints actually at #1 and Falcons #6. Bucs were 16th. 5. Carolina Panthers The Panthers were the only team other than the Saints to have five rookies with 10 or more total points. But there was one real star: wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. He finished the season with 70 catches for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns. The Panthers used their second- and third-round picks on edge rushers, Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen. Scourton finished the season with 5.0 sacks, and Umanmielen had 1.5 sacks. Fourth-round safety Lathan Ransom was also an important part of the Carolina defense, starting six games with 51 combined tackles, plus an interception, a sack and a forced fumble. Other top rookies on offense included fifth-round tight end Mitchell Evans, fourth-round running back Trevor Etienne and sixth-round wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. Undrafted kicker Ryan Fitzgerald finished 24-of-29 on field goals and ranked third in my gross kickoff values.

If Tepp did not like and still believe in BY, BY would be gone… AND/OR it was a Tepper pick the entire time and he does not want to look like the neophyte he is. Tepper has shown 0 reservations on canning people he doesn’t believe in, but yet BY still remains? There was no way any legitimate QB competition would be televised for Panthers Nation to see. Imagine the optics: Bryce comes out the first series or 2, throws his usual ducks against the first string D. Next QB comes in and doesn’t necessarily look great, but he connects on a few 30 yard lasers. The team knew that Dalton would pose no threat so he was allowed to stay. Tepp can close training camp to the public, he can control the propaganda machine and ‘media’ coverage, but he can’t control the televised games where the 2nd and 3rd string QBs play almost the entire time.

Carolina Panthers pick No. 19-2026 NFL Draft
kungfoodude replied to PantherBoy95's topic in Carolina Panthers
Styles would be fantastic but he is a pretty decent candidate to go ahead of us. I think there is ample talent around 19 and I would be VERY against trading down. That is not something I trust this FO to be able to do successfully. BPA and move on. -
I don't think he probably has any desire to go to another losing team. I know he does have roots in this area but he has also spent most of the last 15 years in California. Also, how would he be drastically different than Coker?
