Considering you previously struggled to understand BTT despite it being explained in a video, write-up, and multiple replies, I get why this might be a little too complex for you. Happy to clarify again! Just let me know which part tripped you up this time.

And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something. Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt. Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.

The most telling sign, IMO, of a team on the upward swing is who we lost in the off-season. Who left that even saw the field? Woods, Clowney, Sanders, & Hekker. OK...no big deal. Clowney is the only 1 that I raised an eyebrow over and I get that it was a money decision. No need to pay him over $7M to take snaps from our draft picks when he was just OK last year.

this stuff is always fun, seeing all the leaks happen. pinning this just because i like it. -
Kind of like folks that double, triple, and quadruple down on hating Bryce Young being the Panthers' QB? This hindsight fantasy that the team was locked in on Zach Frazier and passed on a "guaranteed" franchise center is, at best, revisionist; at worst, it's the same tired fatalism we've seen directed at Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, Bryce Young... and now Jonathon Brooks. It's wild watching Panthers fans trip over themselves to dismiss any pick that doesn’t line up with their emotional forecasting, no matter the context, logic, or timeline.

I'm actually a fan of drafting a RB in the 4th. I'm not schooled enough on day 3 RB's to argue whether there was a better option available, but I like what I've seen about Etienne so far. I think he beats out Blackshear for RB3, but is mainly a safety net for 2026. Chuba is locked in long term on his hard-earned big boy contract. Dowdle is coming off a 1,000 yard season and will be looking to prove it wasn't a fluke. It it was, he's a RB2 somewhere (maybe here??). It it wasn't a fluke, he'll get a big-boy contract elsewhere. Brookes... Who TF knows?!?! Even if he does come back, he's 2 years removed from play time. Etienne and he can fight for RB2, the other defaults to RB3. Both will be playing on cheap rookie contracts. Blackshear is meh.

Thanks @CarolinaLivin! Didn't have as much free time as I wanted to follow the rookie camp at all so this thread has been a godsend.

Panthers decision to pass on Walker
LinvilleGorge replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
The preference for smallish NTs was bizarre to me. I mean, you're already looking for a bit of a unicorn with a NT anyway trying to find a guy who can consistently hold his ground against double teams. Now you want to find a smaller, quicker guy who can do it? Yeah, good luck with that... - Today

Yep. I had 2 shoulder surgeries (same shoulder) in college. What you say is true because the joint is a ball-in-socket joint and not like a knee, which is a hinge joint. Another reason (this from my orthopedic surgeon) it is more difficult to overcome is because people want and need to walk, so they are constantly rehabbing the knee. You can protect the shoulder and avoid using it. And you can play with a banged up shoulder because it does not reduce your game speed much. As long as I kept my arm in tight (close to my rib cage) I was fine--but when I extended my arm, I felt vulnerable and it was weaker, it seemed. A shoulder issue was common with LBs. I don't recall seeing a LB in the dressing room without a surgical scar on is shoulder.

F- pick. Taking a hurt RB is the dumbest thing a team starved for tallent could have done in the 2nd. As for planning for 2025, they could have just waited since he brought nothing to 2024. That entire argument that they were playing the long game is like such a copout, just admit it was busted from every angle. They bet poorly and lost. It was a dumb pick and a complete waste of a chance to pick up a meaningful player this team still desperately needs. Picks like that is why this team is picking top 10 ever y year.

Taking all emotion out of it, this season Bryce needs to break out or we need to break up. If we are sniffing the top 10, then he ain't it. At that point we need to look at drafting a QB. You know that the Saints, Browns, Steelers and Jets will be in the QB market. Possibly the Giants, Raiders and Seahawks too. There will be stiff competition for the top guys. I doubt we are top 5 and that's what it's going to take to land Sellers. Again, the Saints are tanking for QB1. Arch Manning going to his grandpa's old team lines up almost too perfectly.

there seems to be a change or two in his personnel preferences. For example, the safeties. Another example: the smallish NTs are out and 330 is back!

This is a good story--I LOVED his dad as a person and player--I talked to him at an OTA (he was back for his second stint) and he was talking about Moore (the WR from Wake Forest) being so young. I was with my teenage son and told him, "This is Taylor. He and I attended the OTAs when you were in Rock Hill as a rookie." He jokes, "Was he in diapers then?" and laughed. I imagine Moose III was in diapers when we chatted that day. So I really would love for this to work out. However, his stats do not suggest he was anything special in college.

Joe Person: Panthers really like Mason Graham and Jalon Walker
MHS831 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I guess there are signs. The combination of the turf toe, hamstring, and knee issues led to questions about his long-term health and affected his draft stock, causing him to fall to the second round. Here is what I know about a knee injury. It changes nearly every aspect of your lower body movement. So the turf toe and hamstring could be related. It makes him seem injury prone. I guess the knee was not the most recent injury, so the others could have been a result of favoring the knee. Johnson did not run the 40 at the combine or pro day. That suggests there is something he feels might drop his value. So if you downplay the severity of the injury, have a history of possibly related injuries, and refuse to demonstrate (when given multiple opportunities) that you are fully recovered, don't get mad when your stock drops.
