Yeah I would still like to have the actual numbers of attempts inc complete int, that stuff in there. I am not surprised by anything on the right, except the 10-20 and the color. The difference between Bryce and League Avg in that square is greater than in others that got the color change. . If I am seeing it right he is 13.8 below avg. Where not even a 10 point shortfall got him Red in other areas. I am horrible with charts though edit: also the number differential in the right yellow section makes because sense when you look at his typical passing charts you know where he wants to go.

Given that making the playoffs seems far more likely for Darnold than for anything of the Vikings, maybe they do.

It wasn’t hindsight for some. But we would likely still have had Fitterer and that is a big negative, so those draft decisions, well who knows? Put the same all out upgrade effort they gave Bryce, we had all the picks back and DJ still, Plus all the stuff they did. But do we pay Burns or add OL? I do t think the IOL would have had the same focus put on it. So many variables. But the QB? Lord… no one asked me back then but to hell with drafting Bryce in almost any case and I was good with Darnold. If everything else was as it is right now we would be rocking.

So, Is Bryce Playing this Week or Nah?

Bryce (who we are saying isn't a good QB) had those weapons on his late season run last year. Can't try to give the old man a pass and not Bryce (who made Moore look solid vs. the Chiefs in his return). Another one is Baker flying out to LAR after we released him and playing great followed by some subpar games. That first game can catch defenses off guard. It wasn't really a mixed bag for Dalton though. Just one good game followed by bad QB play. -
We have all that just not the QB
-
Partial story telling. Because it ignores actual production in those areas and how often you are doing it. And that's where things really get out of whack w/ Bryce vs the league. Bryce wasn't really completing or throwing balls past 20 yards. Which is why our passing O never really produces anything and it's a bottom tier pass attack. Others, can share the efficiency.....and drastically out perform him in production. If you put up the production stats of Bryce vs the field in those areas of the field....it would look MUCH different. And that's why we say it.

I am not trying to say you are wrong and missed my edit window to add that in the last post. To my admittedly simple football mind, the biggest surprise type of difference to Las Vegas was Andy could throw the ball over their heads and Bryce couldn’t or wouldn’t try it. And that wasn’t hard to imagine. And yeah, the gamesmanship over the two QBs is just them taking that to the limit I think. -
I like the idea of signing him at first glance, I am not trying to shoot it down, but couldn’t they make a good enough offer that would fug their cap up too? They are in the same place we are, no QB for years and now may think they have one depending on how the year plays out. If it was Tepper against Irsay’s daughter (?) we know Tepper can pay his way to winning but with the cap?

Bears and Commanders definitely had a better defense but I think you sometimes get that first "surprise" game for lack of a better work. That might be why our staff is being so weird about everything. They want Buffalo to have to prepare for both even though I'm not sure their gameplan changes much regardless. -

No, but a washed Dalton's primary weapon was the basket case named Dionte Johnson who I think was traded like a week after those games. 2 rookies and THE David Moore. QBs are going to have a bit of rollercoaster ride when that's what you are working with (especially meh QBs). Some bad weeks are going to be part of it. And Dalton gave folks a mixed bag. think what Andy is going to show you is glimpses of what a different style QB can potentially give you. But Andy is old and washed. Expecting good and complete games from him isn't really where he is at. -
Last year Bryce was basically as effective as the rest of the league going deep: I would be curious what numbers folks are drawing from that claim he was substantially worse. His issue is basically that he is highly inconsistent 15-20 yards, especially this year. IMO those are the plays we need to keep defenses honest and even last year he wasn't great in that range.
-
Glad you called him out. Because Bryce Young doesn't have the 24th best comp %. Amongst qualifying QBs on ESPN Young is actually 29th in comp %. And 31st in pass yards per game. You were right to question that, clearly he was worse than they implied if you factor in all the qualifying QBs.

Speaking of revisiting trades: Brian Burns

Exactly. If we would had paid Burns, our run defense would still be laughable instead of being on a big upswing. -

If your analysis is fact we won’t learn anything this week either I guess. I remember a lot of people saying Dalton was washed as he went through those games. I suppose it was really a combination of many things film included. edit: I mean, the Raiders had a bad defense too. Washington and Chicago were both better there I think, without refreshing the memory with their rankings. -
Bryce is a pitcher that can only throw a change up. Everybody knows whats coming.

I thought this graphic from the NFL network previewing the Bills/Panthers on the subject is relevant: Overall, the deep ball game is definitely diminishing.

Dalton wasn't seen in Canales's offense. It was actually a first read offense design for him to get the ball out quickly. The Bears seemed to know what the first read was going to be a week later and Dalton completely poo the bed even with Chuba playing great. He look better the next week and completely awful against the Commanders after that. When you trot out a new QB it can throw off a defense (especially a bad defense in LV). Think Kyle Allen, Derek Anderson, All the Fitzmagic, Mike White with the Jets (new Panther shout out), Willis last year in GB, hell look at Flacco just ball out with the Bengals (do you think that will keep happening?) etc when they came in off the bench. Dalton's only lasted one game and poof the "magic" was gone. OL continuity is unfortunately just part of it. I'm not sure we have rolled out the same starting 5 all year. From Icky in week 1, to Moton in week 6, Lewis last week, plus Hunt/Corbs missing multiple weeks. -
I have never really talked about 30 yards bombs. But stretching a D beyond 20 matters and that's Young's biggest issue. Because that opens up the intermediate stuff....and NFL defenses have cheated the intermediate stuff the entire time he has been in the league. From week 1 of his rookie year through his 3rd season.

Emotional just like a little kid because someone doesn’t agree with you . But I’m the idiot . That’s the huddle for you . Burns production is leading the league in sacks right now . You pay players mostly for what they can become not what they did . It’s not hard saying your wrong grown ups do it daily . - Today

Whose metrics are you using because he is nowhere near as bad as you are trying to impy? And that 3rd best rushing attack is a recent event, it wasn't there at the start of the season. And I would hardly boost about his receiver options given it consist of a cadre of rookies and UDFA's.
