We have to keep him for depth. It is what is. I'm just hoping that our FO navigates this offseason strategically versus panicking over the OL.
-
I agree more than not with all that but it’s just a much much better spot than we’ve been previously and I think we can go through a coach/qb transition without a 2010 kind of rebuild year.

It's fine that means we get to see more PJ Hall tonight.

The bright side is that if our offense shits the bed it is looking to be a nice QB class next year. Kind of a good year to have a tough schedule as weird as that sounds. -

Sound about right for the odds. I wouldn’t touch it either way. -
Maybe I am on an island with this take but damn I thought Icky was developing into a damn fine LT and when I watch Yosh he is just a sluggish lumbering dude that plays in slow motion. I am not against resigning him, as a back up, but there is no way in hell Morgan and Co have the balls to trot him out there thinking he is a solution for 17 games.

damn ya'll mofos better hope Bevell is the 2nd coming of Bill Walsh because 2026 might get ugly. I think he is good insurance if DC keeps shitting the bed but if we have to switch 6,7,8 games in to DB calling plays then something has gone catastrophically wrong -
Yeah but the whole point of a LT is to protect your QB's blindside (right handed). Opening holes for RBs is not why they are far and away the highest paid linemen. The only linemen that are paid as much or more are the guys that can beat them to get to the QB. A LT that's a run specialist is like a WR that only runs screens and jet sweeps. Many here think the team can easily replace BY. I think the same can be said for Ickey. Heck Yosh may not be that much of a drop off - if any.

Lost my -1.5 bet, made it back, plus some with a live USA bet. Gold!!!!! -
Right now, I would say doubtful he even plays next season. A ruptured achilles is about one of the worst injuries you can suffer in the NFL and at Oline, as it really impacts your ability to get that explosive burst forward when the ball is snapped. I'd be thrilled if BC recovers 100% and plays like he did before the injury, even if he doesn't play a snap next year while rehabbing.

Missing 2 starters plus White still not ready. I expect them to lose the next 2 then go on a bit of a run

I wouldn't pencil Yosh in as the starter but bringing him back for depth seems to make sense. Is BC even gonna be recovered in time?

While that is true, it is much harder to have the actual strength to move people backwards with run blocking (which is a weakness for Cross). Cross was never going to be a dominant run blocker because if he put on the mass to have better strength, it would take away his good lateral speed to slow down speed edge rushers. For Icky vs. Cross, it came down to do you want a mauler OT or a agile pass protector OT. We chose the mauler because we were (and mostly still are) a power run offense. At the end of the day, Icky is a top tier run blocking tackle in the NFL while being an average pass protector. I think a big reason why our run game mostly went to crap the back half of the season is because we stopped running the ball to the left side for some reason (that combined with teams stacking the box). Just blew my mind that it seemed like 2/3 of our run plays were off guard run plays to the right behind freaking Corbett... Like the dumbest designed running lane to choose with all the other people we have on our oline.

Mike Kaye: LB Devin Lloyd could be a realistic possibility
Soul Rebel replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I REALLY like Dean but curious how he fits here with current personnel and scheme. He screams a Dan Morgan type of leader for the defense and is everything you want in a leader of the defense. 5'11" isn't ideal but Bolton is also an undersized backer that is very important to that KC defense. -
Top 5 draft targets for positions of need
LinvilleGorge replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Guys being as good as they're ever gonna be on day one of their rookie seasons is quite a trend for a lot of Panthers draft picks. Our drafting has sucked, but so has our talent development. -
Some good points, but I disagree. To me, the goal is to win the division and make the playoffs. If that's made easier some years than others, so be it -- but I enjoy the discussion on either side.

Happy to hear someone bring up our DLine. People focus on Luke and TD on the 2015 Team but they would not have been as dominant without Star and Short.

Top 5 draft targets for positions of need
XClown1986 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope not. Needs change year to year. If we get to the 3rd round and there is a wide receiver we had graded in the 2nd, but our "need positions" are graded as 4th round or lower, I would really hope we draft the receiver. The fan base may flip out, but the goal is to bring in the best players and look out for the long term success of the team. -
I think tonight says a lot about this team. Coming out of All Star Weekend, hosting a team that is very good, who they just beat on the road in Houston. Last year this team would come out and lay an absolute egg in this spot, hoping things have changed.
