Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
CRA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, you just look to the next season where Carolina had the most expensive OL in all the NFL…..and I shared with the analytics where the exact same open and yac issues exist there. And he didn’t have 19th string OGs, he had great OGs that suited up all year. I just don’t get why people are dug into over defense of BY. We know he doesn’t have great physical tools. We know he can’t make all the throws. And that is going to lower the ceiling/potential and we know defenses adjust when a QB can’t hit all the throws on the field. He isn’t going to grow a new body/arm. So for me, he is just our QB for now at this point. I’ll pull for him. But I’ll view him like every other player in the big picture people (Bryce defenders) are cool with replacing and upgrading. And then I favor the growth of bigger picture players (which is why I am done with AT). Biggest issue probably is some think this is a team that is about to compete and I view it as a development team -

I am at the point where I don't get angry about the Panthers anymore. Mildly annoyed and most amused. Tepper ain't worth getting angry over. -

In fairness to Pitts, they use him completely wrong. He is absolutely a matchup nightmare, but ATL trot him out there at as an inline TE in 21 or a slot wr in 11 personnel. They take all the mystery out of his role in the play. A competent OC could get much more out of him. Use him more in 12 personnel, where you can motion him around to exploit those matchups. They would never trade him to us, but I would love Pitts in this TE room. -

I didn’t intentionally leave them out (frankly, I forgot about them). Mingo was a bad WR that was traded in season to be depth on a team (without Dak). Not sure that makes any point. I’ll give you Dionte Johnson as the actual outlier to my point. But that’s what he is. But what’s the more reasonable argument? That it’s all the WRs. Essentially every single one of vastly different skill sets? Or it’s more the QB and the O scheme? And how Ds play Bryce in it. -

"Pitts hasn't matched the heights of his rookie campaign, but has shown flashes here and there that his talent remains." "After injuries and inconsistency slowed his development in recent years. The Falcons are playing it by the ear and could explore a trade that sends Pitts to the Carolina Panthers, giving the team a fresh start and a chance to play with a franchise quarterback in Bryce Young and rejuvenate his young career." "Carolina bringing Pitts on board will add to the collection of talent that is at [disposal] for the offense." https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nfl/nfl-trade-predictions-rumors-atlanta-falcons-kyle-pitts-carolina-panthers-2118278 -

Another day, another dumb move by the Panthers. I'm numb to this idiocy and have been for a while. This organization under Tepper has ran off or drained the emotional investment of most of it's core fans. I'm around still, but refuse to put more than a minimum amount of time and energy into this team anymore.

This is pretty much how I feel. I was really hoping to have a decent preseason. I really didn't care if we won or not but I was expecting a little bit more excitement from our offense especially since our entire O-line returned and we added some really nice offensive players. I hope it was just running specific plays to gage our players on offense. Still we looked terrible in all three preseason games. Defensively I still see pee wee football. 11 players all jumbled together and getting burned on a simple cut back. Evero better have his Stuff together come game one. There should be no excuses. I'm excited for game one and I hope we live up to our late season hype from 2024. -

How TF can you be a GM of a professional football team and think its smart to draft a TE not only in the 1st round, but 4th overall lol - Today

Yeah, I think you guys are taking the wrong approach with Bryce. Being intelligent means you can learn quickly and at a high level to solve problems. It doesn't necessarily mean you know everything already. He needed to learn a new offense both years in the NFL. First year, the coaching situation and conflicting instruction presented the worst situation for a player like him. Hopefully he's had enough experience in this offense now to perform better on the field. Definitely trending in that direction by the end of last season. He was never going to be a guy that killed it day one. He doesn't have the physical traits for that. Honestly I'm more concerned with this young receiving group and their ability to learn the offense early on. Bryce will benefit more from smart receivers than he will from pure athletes. Be where you're supposed to be, when you're supposed to be there. And oh yeah... catch the ball.

I have to admit that I have never heard of Enzo Flojo, but I kind of like this Clutch Points' writer's name. It flows. When I saw his trade hypothetical, I thought about it, and I kind of like it as well. But would our FO actually do it, in light of their draft last year? And would the Falcons do it, considering that the Panthers are a division rival, and are they ready to admit a sunk cost? "Kyle Pitts hasn’t lived up to his draft billing yet, but his potential is too tantalizing to ignore. For the cost of a Day 3 pick, the Panthers could secure a tight end who gives Bryce Young the safety net he desperately needs. With McMillan, Legette, and Thielen stretching defenses on the outside, Pitts could thrive in a featured role in Carolina’s offense." That's an interesting proposition. I expect to hear the arguments about giving Sanders' time and our much-needed draft capital. Sanders may surprise, yeah, but he had an opportunity to take the position by the horns last year and wrestle it away from Tremble. And, of course we have Mitchell Evans who will likely be a good all-around backup, but neither guy has the upside of Pitts. And for a day three pick---if we could actually unlock Pitts' true potential as the glorified WR that he is, then he'd make a compelling number three option and safety valve that may play well with Bryce Young's game. https://clutchpoints.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/last-minute-trade-panthers-must-make-week-1-2025-nfl-season

How in the world are folks not getting open because of Bryce when he was sacked for what was then the 2nd most times a rookie QB had been sacked (until Caleb Williams)? He got sacked 50+ times behind a 6th and 7th string guard duo. Dalton played one good game against the RAIDERS? The same Andy Dalton that people are ready to take out behind the barn and put down so that they can have a UDFA QB in the room that won't be on a roster next season? I get that Aidan O'Connell is some Huddlers' favorite QB, but Jesus... Again: What is the acceptable floor for a rookie QB with 6th & 7th string starting guards, a group of weapons where the only player getting open is 33yrs old, and the coaching staff switched the offense up three times in their first year? Why is it that I keep getting excuses instead of numbers in response to that? -
Stanford probably should've won that game, all things considered. Not a great look for Reich.
-
Frank Reich had 3 timeouts and got the ball back with just over 2min left and the game tied at 20. On 2nd and 7, he calls back-to-back passing plays instead of a screen or a run to wind down the clock. They punted to Hawai'i who was sitting on two timeouts. Reich sat on all 3 timeouts once Hawai'i got into field goal range which allowed them to kill clock and kick the game winning FG. This was the offensive guru that switched the offense on a rookie QB twice. I'm gonna need some of the "no excuses" crowd to keep that energy for themselves this season if Bryce keeps looking like he did post benching.
