  1. As I watch things unfold and it appears half the league is going to jockey into position to get one of the rookie QBs. I think we need to do what is necessary to get Watson. Houston has said they want picks and defensive players. I could see 3 #1s and as much as I hate it we are going to have to part with Brown, Burns or Chinn and one other defensive player. I doubt we give up two of those three. They are basically getting 4 first round picks counting one of these 3 players. Though the price is steep, I think this is our best way out of the crazy QBs frenzy. Tepper wants a franchise QB and you can't say any of these guys(draft picks or free agents) are surefire 100% franchise outside of Lawrence and even he has a small chance at not being that guy. (I say this only because he hasn't played in the league yet) It's going to suck to go a couple of years without a #1 pick but if we play our cards right those picks are going to be in the 20s and maybe 32.
  2. It depends on if we land a QB. If we don't land a QB than yes 100% re-sign him. If we land Watson and give up CMC than yes we'll need to re-sign him. If we have to go with TB5 he's going to need all we can give him to be productive. OR god forbid we let him walk and have to go in 2021 tanking for 2022 with TB at the helm.
  3. Henning is the only reason we were in that game in 2003/04. Billicheat had our offense stopped, thanks to his cheating way, until Henning changed the game plan and we took off in the 2nd half. Fox let Henning run the offense. I can only imagine what he would have done with Cam. I'd take Cam and the 2015 defense with SS and Jonathan Stewart.
  4. I thought the Texans wanted picks and defensive players. This is probably more likely especially since they just let Watts go.
  5. Lightning won't strike a second time. If we put him on waivers he'll be gone quicker than Hot Apple Pie on a Sunday afternoon.
  6. The issue is. Will there be one available at 8 or will we give up the farm to move up to get one. What if we try and are outbid. The team has already made it clear that TB is not the answer and moving forward with him in 2020 is slim to none. Some of the QBs that are on the market may need a change of scenery. I would have to trust our staff to weed out the good and the bad. The point of my thread was if we trade for a QB we are going to be without many picks in this draft. We will have to be on our "A" game in the witn UDFAs and FA and hit on every pick in the draft. I think this off season will show which teams have the most talented scouting team. Hopefully, we are one of those teams. There will be young free agents that are/were stuck behind a starter kind of like Klein when he was behind Luke. I would imagine that Fitterer will be looking into every roster looking for those types of players.
  7. Hope so, I saw where GB center was going to be released but I would imagine he's probably going to demand a nice paycheck.
  8. These players that want their input are the same ones that are strapping their team financially. They want the biggest and the highest contract for their position and expect miracles on the GM to put a monster O-line in from of them with Beast Mode running the ball. if I were Seattle or any other team that has a player screaming for rights to have input. The first thing I would tell them is renegotiate your contract to a team friendly deal. If you can't do your part to help get a winning squad by reducing your mammoth salary. Than STFU and deal with who we can afford. You can't expect to take 1/4 of the cap and than scream you don't have anyone to support you. Those players cost money too.
  9. Obviously our No. 1 priority is finding someone who can guide this team in 2021 and hopefully beyond. There are a millions threads about that. This thread is more about what happens when we find one. Our options at QB are as many as the number of posts on QBs in this forum. Each will come at a cost of draft capital unless we take one via Free Agency. That might be worse than our current situation. If we are to manage a way to get Watson our draft picks will be severely reduced. I think free agency is going to produce a ton of available talent due to the CAP not going up as it has normally. Teams will part ways with players that in a normal offseason they may have kept. Fitterer and Rhule will no doubt try to weed through the high priced FA and try to nab a couple of solid contributors especially on the O-Line. During the next couple of weeks the list will grow and we'll be able to guess at who we might sign. Depending on the number of picks we have based on our new QB. Nailing every pick will be crucial. I would hope we keep either a 2nd or 3rd this season so we can address some protection for our new QB. Rounds 4 thru 7 we must find those gems that were overlooked. This offseason I believe that opportunity is better than previous season since many of the lower round picks were made because of good pro days and combine results. Many of these borderline players may slip through the cracks. Hopefully Fitterer and Rhule do well. Finally I think the UDFA market will produce more 53 man roster spots than normal. Once again hopefully our scouting staff is ahead of other teams and we find another Norwell that can improve our team. I hope Fitterer is creative enough to do wonders this offseason and we continue to build on our roster like we did in 2020.
  10. If we could get him for a 3rd and let him play in 2021. If he does well than we can make a move to keep him. If he fails maybe we are high enough in the draft next year for Howell or one of the other up and coming QBs. I'[m not against it.
  11. Just another factor in why SS will be a first ballot HOFer.
  12. Well I won't be surprised if Darnold goes from one shitstorm to another, He'll probably be a part of the trade if the Jets go through with it.
  13. The only true franchise QB in this draft is Lawrence. Lance may have the tools to be a franchise QB but no way is this a guarantee. I think he'll last to 8 anyhow and would take the gamble that he falls that far. Miami isn't taking a QB and if they do I'd rather trade #8 and 2nd round pick for the 18th pick and Tua.
  14. When his name is announced on the nominees I hope we do a poll. How many triple crown receivers are there? Calvin Johnson never won the triple crown and got in first ballot with smaller numbers. Smitty will be a 1st ballot HOFer. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!!
  15. Thank god Hurney isn't with us this year. He'd be drafting some obscure OL from Podunk University because he saw on tape that he pancaked a 6'1" 185lb DT in 2019. This draft is going to show the talent of our scouting department, especially if we end up winning the Watson sweepstakes. We'll have limited picks and those picks must produce gems. More importantly those players that moved up in the latter rounds because of the combine and pro days will not slide into the UDFA market. I think it will be critical to nail a couple of these guys to our roster this year.
  16. Agreed but there are probably just as many media folks that love him like we do. Tory Holt was a great receiver on a great offensive team but he wasn't as dangerous as Smitty was. Smitty terrorize defensive coordinators and made plays when they shouldn't have been made. He has one more season before he is eligible but he'll be on the ballot and IMO will be a first ballot HOFer.
  17. Do what they did to Rod Woodson. Move him to Safety and extend his career.
  18. 100% in and no doubt a first ballot. Not only do his numbers say so but he was probably one of the most feared WR in the game for a decade. His highlight reel is full of gasps and haa's. He is arguably the best pound for pound WR to ever play the game. Numbers are not the only criteria for getting in. it also has to do with how dominate you were at your position. Name me one WR you would have rather had than Steve Smith in his prime. He's also one of the very few WR to win the triple crown in receiving. YDs, Rec and TDs. (2005) He is a First Ballot HOFer. No Doubt about it.
  19. Any trade whether it is for Watson or moving up in the draft is going to hurt. We'll give up a ton of picks for Watson and about a 1/2 ton for picks 2, 3 or 4. Our GM is going to have to be very good at finding talent with the picks we have remaining, if any. More importantly he's going to HAVE TO strike gold in the UDFA market. We have a choice. Give up a ton of picks and scramble to build a line around him or stick at 8 and take what comes to us and find a good QB in the free agent market.
  20. I've seen a couple of mocks that have him going before Sewell. So it's not out of the question to see him fall to 8. Or we could take Slater at 8 which would not upset me.
  21. You're probably right but the team can only do so much in the market to improve when his personal salary takes a huge chunk of the overall CAP. The teams that can hit consistently in the draft, especially the lower rounds, can absorb this hit. However, if you miss a couple of years running now the only way to address your deficiencies are through free agency and you may not have the funds available to do it.
  22. Bieniemy is like Rivera. Rivera had many good seasons as a DC and should have been hired long before JR signed him. I don't think this performance changes his outlook but there is something that we must not know about him to get passed up so many times. I know teams want to get their vacancies filled quickly but they didn't even wait until after the SB to have all the opening filled. Someone know why he seems to be invisible to some of these teams. Good God some teams made some really strange choices this offseason as to who their next coach was. They were chosen over EB.
  23. I think it pissed them off that he didn't get caught until he almost reached the endzone. I'm not too offended by their actions though. Got him to the ground, demobilized him and cuffed him quickly so this didn't drag out.
  24. Dude you're showing our age. I remember watching this on TV. I loved Mike Curtis. Big Baltimore Colts fan back in those days. Funny thing is this guy, if I remember correctly, tried to sue him. Curtis's reply was "I was doing my job, tackle the man with the football." Johnny U was my hero.
  25. Yeah, If the greedy bastards weren't so greedy their team might be able to provide some decent protection. I have no sympathy for a QB whose salary hit is nearly 1/4 or more of the teams CAP.
