I'm pretty sure there's language in there that doesn't allow a player to sit out if his team matches the offer. That would be negotiating in bad faith. I would think the Ravens and NFLPA would be able to eat him alive for it.

Last time I will explain this because you do not understand it at all. Football is a team sport. Carr may not be better than Rodgers or Lamar, but his cost to acquire could end up being significantly less and the net gain by signing Carr and adding 2 or 3 big weapons could be greater than by simply signing Rodgers or Lamar. How much better would Joe Burrow be without Chase and Higgins? If the Bengals had traded assets for Burrow like either of these 2, especially Lamar, they wouldn't have had the picks to get either one. You've been bitching that the Ravens haven't surrounded Lamar with elite talent. It's hard to do that without cap space and draft picks like the situation would be here if we made a move for him. And Rodgers wants more money than LJ. Cap space can be manipulated to a point, but if you aren't ready to make a SB run today, Rodgers is a bad move. I liked Carr on a 2-3 year deal at about 30m per season. I wouldn't have been happy with the deal he got from NO. But, that would have let us keep our picks and load up on offensive talent that we desperately need, possibly take a QB in the 1st, but not act out of desperation. It also gives us salary cap room to keep guys like Burns, Chinn, Brown, DJ, Horn, Bozeman. But Carr was not my 1st choice. He did however, give us options. You have to be able to put other players on the field. It doesn't matter if you have the greatest QB in the history of football if your defense can't stop an opposing offense. All their defense needs to do is stop your offense a couple of times and you lose. KC kept Hurts off the field in the SB. He didn't have a chance to win it at the end because he was on the sidelines. There has to be some semblance of balance when building a team. If you want to go all in on Lamar or Rodgers, that's your prerogative. But you can't whine and complain we're not putting talent around them when you gave that ability away just to put them on the field. Personally, I think we need to build through the draft, but again, you have to measure and calculate what you're getting vs what you're giving up. Stroud could be the best QB in the draft, but if you take away your ability to build around him you're not doing yourself any favors either. I prefer logical, well thought out, strategic team building focusing on maximizing gain for the least amount of cost. I like having the ability to be flexible instead of being stuck all in and hoping for the best. Guys can get knocked out of this game and their careers in an instant. You have to have some room to work around it.

My comment has nothing to do with LJ. It has to do with Tepper getting his sights set on a QB, like he did with Watson, and being willing to do whatever it takes whether or not it's actually good for the team. And I wasn't excited about Carr. I'm excited about having football people who are actually qualified to judge QB talent.

GB wants a franchise QB but is happy to let Rogers walk. Baltimore wants a franchise QB, but will trade LJ. It's not all about having a franchise QB. You have to have a team. These teams are willing to let them walk because they believe they can build a better team by doing so. That should give anyone pause to stop and ask why. Rogers needs a Davante Adams type receiver or he throws a temper tantrum. We don't have that. He hurt his team's chance to win in game because he was mad a rookie receiver dropped a pass. He's also on the downside of his career and is contemplating retirement. Those are big red flags. LJ hasn't finished the season the past 2 years, and if the report is true, hurt his team by holding himself out of playoff relevant games because of a contract dispute. Plus he didn't hire an agent, and now is using SAS as a mouthpiece because his mom isn't getting it done as his agent. He's making some very bad decisions IMO and his playing style and injury history doesn't make me want to drop 50m a year for 5 years fully or almost fully guaranteed. If we're going to get a franchise QB, get him in the draft and build from there. Don't take on someone else's problems.

These are contract numbers provided by you EXCEPT Geno didn't get 100 mil guaranteed. His actual contract is 105 with 40 guaranteed Carr didn't get 150 mill guaranteed. His actual contract is 150 with 60 guaranteed. LJ's offer was 250m with 133m guaranteed. Someone may offer him 200m guaranteed. Don't care. But if you're going to argue contract numbers to prove your point, you may actually want to know what the contract numbers are.

Armanti Edwards was a 3rd round pick. We used our future second, which happened to be the 1st pick of the second round, but he was in no way a 1st rounder.

It would be a very similar situation offensively though. Possible elite TE in Pitts (Andrews) and a young WR in London (Brown).
