Because it's just eternally kicking the can down the road.

People are reading far too much into this. Any offer for a QB trade has to take into account Bridgewater's contract. We couldn't (and shouldn't) carry Bridgewater and whoever we traded to replace him as the starter - take this one, that would be $40m tied up in the QB position. For the Lions there was the possibility that we could package Bridgewater in the deal. For others we'd have to move him separately. I'd love to know what Bridgewater is thinking about this offseason so far - our FO has clearly mentally moved on from him, if not physically.

Top 3 player to pull on a jersey for us. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer for mine.

Again this is why Draft season is so intriguing. I disagree with your posts about Fields and Jones. To me, Fields comes from a one read system - Ohio St are notorious for only asking their QB to read half the field and, if nothing is there immediately, to take off. Jones ran a much more complex system at Alabama and was asked to process a lot of information. You don't throw 40+ TDs, hold off a 5 star QB and appease Sarkisian (now the Texas HC) and Saban if you're a limited QB during a National Title run. Sarkisian's system was sensational and obviously Jones is surrounded by NFL talent, but the dude just went out there an executed. Bottom line. TL;DR: Fields is a fantastic athlete for the QB position who still has question marks for me concerning his ability to see the field. Jones barely clears the bar athletically as an NFL QB, but clearly processes the field well.

We're not in a position to take on a $25m a year salary and eat the cap hit of trading Bridgewater. We're struggling to resign Moton as it is.

Dude has a SB ring and $78m (before tax) in his bank account. He's doing fine.

I've worked at three different companies during my time. I've never seen an ounce of loyalty - everyone moves on if a better opportunity arises. Hell most are actively seeking out those better opportunities. It's just the way of the world these days.

Martellus Bennett dropping truth bombs
OldhamA replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nah, you're forced into retirement because it's a physical job and it's difficult as a 30something year old to compete with 22-24 year olds at their physical peak. -
Martellus Bennett dropping truth bombs

I worked at Blackburn Rovers for a while and that phrase is very true. The players are not impressive up close and away from a football pitch. But why would you expect them to be? They've been groomed since they were 6 years old to be phenomenal football players. Everything else is secondary. -
Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list
OldhamA replied to Panthers316's topic in Carolina Panthers
Which means if these QBs are as good as half the Huddle think they are, picks #2-4 will be shopping those selections to teams that want a QB. Potentially from teams in the mid-late first round range. -
I'd prefer not to take him at all, thank you very much.

Schefter thinks Darnold worth 1st rounder if traded
OldhamA replied to Ja Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean, so was Clausen and we burned him at the stake. Darnold has done nothing in the NFL. To boot he also only has one year of his rookie deal left, so he's not even a bargain. A first rounder for him would be moronic. -
Tua went #4 overall and was less impressive in college. It only takes one team.
-
Newman is legit terrible and Trask does not have an NFL arm. He also has cement blocks in his feet. Sure, pick him up as a backup at some point but don't spend a first rounder on him. This coming from someone who really WANTS to like him, but can't see past the lack of velocity on his throws (and yes Jones has a better arm).

Goff isn't better than Bridgewater - he's a one read QB. McVay dumped him for a reason - dude didn't develop the ability to process the field at all.
-
I personally think we sit there at #8 and if the QB / standout A.N. Other prospect we think is worth the #8 overall pick isn't there we trade down. That could mean trading down with a Fields / Wilson / Lance on the board.

Just how much have you watched Mac Jones play? I feel like the people that HAVEN'T watched him play look at the talent around him and assume that everyone is wide open and he has all day to throw the ball. That's absolutely not the case. I'd actually attribute half of his success to Sarkisian (and the army of analysts that support him) - their game planning on offence was ridiculous. Just look at the National Championship game - how the fug do you have a MLB covering the #1 WR? The other half of his success? A combination of the talent around him and his own talent. I can't fault him for never bringing his team back from behind because he never let his team get down - he kept them on track offensively. Mac Jones wins at the next level with the 6 inches inbetween his ears. I can't tell you whether he's going to be brilliant, but so far he's absorbed and processed every bit of information Alabama / Sarkisian and Rhule (for a week) has thrown at him. He's an interesting prospect.

Here's the thing, let's say he's got the same physical talent as Bridgewater, but he's not as afraid as Teddy is to push the ball down the field. That instantly makes him a better QB and probably results in a couple more wins last season.

Stafford didn’t want to come to the Panthers
OldhamA replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Paid him $100m and moved on from him when he was a physical wreck?
