With nearly a third of the snaps, Hoskins exceeded or was on track to exceed Nixon's. The facts are there: media folks liked him because he was a 2nd round prospect according to some that fell to us in the 5th. They're partial to that, the same way that a Pats beat writer is going to write favorably about them during joint practices. However, on the field? He disappeared. If folks are going to claim that he did his job and shouldn't have been cut, then show the supporting evidence. Stats are that, as is game film. Go pull up his snaps from last season and his preseason action. There's plenty of moments where he was cleared out by a single OL, or got no push while his teammates being doubled were collapsing the pocket.

The rationalization that you will hear is that he is signing off on the moves and/or is just a figurehead. The reality is that they're miserable and lashing out at any scapegoat that they can.
-
Did they give any insight into anything specific? I recall a big part of his slide during the draft had to do with his off-field habits, which I took to mean not taking care of his body and/or preparing properly.
-
Eagerly awaiting details on the deal on my end. If the pay is reasonable, then the move makes even more sense. If they're paying him what they paid Fox tho... ew.
-
I don't know what to tell you if you have already decided that the move doesn't make sense based on where he was selected and/or whatever you perceive the needs of the team to be. The stats and film tell the tale. A 5th round selection was outperformed by a 7th rounder and a UDFA.

You must not have watched as closely as you had intended. You don't need to understand gap assignments when that player is getting consistently washed out. Nixon didn't producE. In 82 snaps he compiled 0.5 sack and 9 combined tackles. Hoskins (in just 28 snaps) had 1 sack, 4 combined tackles, and 1 TFL. The stats and film show that Nixon wasn't producing. As a 5th round selection, he had to do more to earn his spot

Loved what I was seeing out of KJ Henry last night. He caused the opening interception and then blew up their first play on the second drive. Keeping an eye on him as somebody that we might be able to snag at some point on day 3. Seems to have the length that coaches like but even though he doesn't quite have the bend he does have incredibly active (and violent) hands.

Yea, at least this preseason they even had games up in the early evening (condensed and full).

Week 1 General Discussions - Talk to me about the Browns
Icege replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I will gladly take contributions like this over the frail and entitled bitching some of the current Panthers fans exclusively engage in. Thanks for the write up and welcome aboard! -
NFL+ gets the full and condensed games up pretty quickly now (used to take a day or two). Still waiting for coach's film to come back I've heard a few ppl say that they can access it but I haven't been able to yet (they usually take 2 - 3 days to load them going off of previous seasons)
-
It makes sense if you watched the games.

Was supposed to be a steal for a 5th round selection but was regularly washed out (and out performed) by back ups. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere. Excited to see if Hoskins or McCall can develop.
-
This. Fox played almost 200 snaps more than YGM but only had 1 FF, 1.5 sack, 34 combined tackled, 2 TFL, and 2 QB Hits. Yetur, on the other hand, had 1 PD, 1 FF, 3.5 sacks, 28 combined tackles, 5 TFL, and 4 QB Hits.

Huddlers.... WE MADE IT!!! Week 1 is finally here!!!! -
I'm not saying the dude is going to have the mythical year three that he's had twice before, but would it even matter? Y'all both just said that any success this team might have you're not going to give credit to Rhule but rather chalk it to him not getting in the way.
-
He was outperformed by Hoskins, Roy, McCall etc. The only time he flashed last year was during the Colts joint practices. Aside from that, his 82 snaps over 7 games last season translated into just half a sack, 1 solo tackle, and 2 QB hits. There's no real surprise when we watch the performance on the field rather than the traits on paper.
-
The rationalizations prove my point on this.
-
Dude has consistently underperformed. Rarely got a push, was washed out often, etc. Phil Hoskins did more on the field than him as a 7th round selection. Was only a matter of time at this point, especially with McCall also outplaying him.
-
I'm fairly certain that even if the win column is showing what the fans want that people are going to deny Rhule's involvement. If anything, they'll write him off as finally staying out of the way, being carried by his coaching staff, carried by his players, etc.

I figured if there were anywhere folks would catch flack, it would be Columbia. Gamecocks fans never recovered from the ass beating they took from Auburn during the SEC Championship game.
-
Curious as well, as I've never gotten an ill word while wearing a Cam jersey during his time here nor afterwards.
-
There's plenty of reasons to be optimistic or pessimistic; it's just a matter of what you choose to be at this point. Personally, I prefer to have a good time. Some folks prefer to be miserable. At this point, it's up to you.

I have an unhealthy infatuation with the center position, and to say that I wanted Creed Humphrey and Tyler Linderbaum is an understatement (I will die on the hill that wrestlers make great linemen, especially centers). However, we've also got the guy that Linderbaum replaced... and he's seems to be pretty good too. Trey Smith is the guy that every fan but Chiefs fans can point at and scream, "SEE!?!?!" when arguing against their current regime.
