Three-time former NFL coach Wade Phillips said via Twitter that he’ll be working the upcoming selection process with SKY Sports in England. 

 

“Hope they can understand Texas English,” Phillips said.

No word on how much coverage the channel is giving (doubt it's gavel to gavel like ESPN and NFL Network) but still kind of interesting that it's happening.

Could conceivably be part of the effort Goodell is making toward getting a team in England.

 

I still hate that idea and don't really believe this will help further it, if that's the intent.

 

If they're just covering it as a major sporting event, all well and good.

We've had the draft over here every year for the past 5 years or so, maybe longer, that's as long as I've followed the NFL.

 

The last couple of years we've had the ESPN feed (on our ESPN channel) and before that we had the NFL Network feed on Sky Sports (which is what I imagine we will go back to this year). A few years ago we got every minute of the draft but the relationship between Sky and the NFL became a bit frosty with ESPN trying to buy up the UK TV rights so we only got to see day 1 the last couple of years.

 

Year round I think we get 4 episodes of Total Access a week, an early Sunday game, a late Sunday game, the late late Sunday game (which is actually a Monday morning game for us), the MNF game (Tuesday for us) and the TNF game (Friday for us). We also get a bit of draft coverage (including day 1) and all playoff games and the SB. There is a fair bit of coverage for the London game on both digital and terrestrial TV, same for the SB. We also get RedZone.

 

Really starting to see the effect the International Series is having on our coverage of the NFL. My only complaint is how bad our pundits/experts are.

Ironically, our main presenter has the most American accent every heard. The other presenter looks like a lightbulb.

 

They have any experience playing American Football or are they just broadcasters?

The English dude that looks like a lightbulb claims to have played in the BFL (British Football League) but the quality there isn't very good so it's not much of a claim. The English dude (Neil Reynolds if you are interested) loves to name drop, if he's interviewed somebody and they are playing in a game that is being shown he mentions that they are buddies constantly.

 

Not the point of this thread but seeing as it has been brought up, there is a lot of support for the NFL in the UK but not a lot for a team. It's the best part of $1000 to go to the International Series game because it's in London and all the prices sky rocket when the game is on, nobody can realistically afford this 8 times a year, that and the fact we all have our teams that we have supported for years. The main people that want a UK team are in the NFL itself. We're quite happy with a game or 2 a year.

      The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.

      I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.

      lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
