What would you do if you were the Texans?

priority #1.....QB

priority #2 .......protect QB (esp. with texans history in mind)

i would focus this draft on the QB and then trenches, starting with the offense.

if.they feel confident that they can grab their QB with their pick in the second round, take the best OT.

Clowney.  Best defensive prospect in a decade.  He has to be the pick.

People keep saying this, but I just don't see it.  The production simply doesn't match up with the ability.  IMO, Clowney is the classic bust in the making.  In my mind, production not matching up with ability is probably the biggest on field red flag of them all.

Clowney, unless you're getting a king's ransom for one. You don't wanna pass on a prospect like that and regret it.

this has been a great discussion in this area with our radio "expert" Walt Deptula.I am not a real fan of Deptula but he did lay out a good point. If Houston wants the best 3-4 LB then Mack is the best but does Houston want to take a chance of Clowney being everything he potentially can be and pass him up?  I think if I am Houston I take Mack. If I get a trade close enough I still take Mack and a QB in 1rst round.

This is another option I could see.  Especially based on the owners comments.  Props to him for coming out and publicly owning the fact that they never really gave David Carr a chance putting him behind that OL early in his career.  So, unless they're just totally enamored with the allure of potential that is Clowney, I could see them ultimately pulling the trigger on the OT of their choice and hoping that a QB they like falls in their laps at #33 or possibly even jumping back into the late 1st to snag a guy.

I think I'd take Mack over Clowney, but the prospect of taking Greg Robinson would be enticing, as well. Then, in the 2nd, I'd try and get one of the "other" QBs... I'd target Savage, but Garoppolo would be a nice "consolation" prize.

Clowney then draft Mettenberger later.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mettenberger is in for a tumble.  IMO, he was a bit of a product of his WRs already and now you factor in significant injury issues and I can't see a team rolling the dice on him in the first couple of rounds.  He's already coming off of a torn ACL and now evidently he has some very serious spinal issues going on as well.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
