2 Key Things Regarding Kony Ealy

have you seen who their competition is?

I really thought we were gonna go OT at #60. The staff keeps saying they're not overly concerned about OT and I thought they were bluffing, but maybe they're actually telling the truth. I sure hope they know something we dont or that they plan to sign some veteran stop gap help at some point.

After I was a whiny ass last year and predicted 6-10 solely based on our O-line, I'm ready to just believe them this year.

Be honest, wouldn't you be more excited going into the season with either Kouandjio, Moses or Robinson as our 2nd round pick? Right now we're going into the season with much less than when we ended it. Not excited at all.

Yes, I would.

Just as I'm excited about adding quality depth to the DL.  And team flexibility in the future because we have to resign Cam and Luke to long-term contracts.

One is a three year starter the team sewms to like a good bit.

who has his competition been?

the bar isn't exactly set too high. they've been  bit spoiled by having gross and kalil on the line and wharton last year. they've also been spoiled by having cam under center who can handle pressure better than just about anyone in the game, but any lesser QB would have gotten hurt bad by this point and probably killed by the gross and wharton feree line we are getting ready to see.

and the fact that we dont have a lesser QB doesn't excuse our lack of effort to improve there.

i understood that was too much talent to pass up, but how many teams passed on him twice?

i understand that it gives us leverage and options in dealing with DEs that take up WAAAAAAYYYY too much cap space, but we still have old and slow DBs and poo at OT on either side. i want to know what he plans on doing there that doesn't end up with JAG scrubs starting for us, esp. at OT that is kinda important.

How many teams passed on Hardy?

How many teams passed on CJ?

Our current starting DEs.

when will people understand ya don't draft based on need.

We needed a QB in 2011..... we drafted one with our first pick. lol

We needed a DT last year.... we drafted one last year.

This year we needed a  WR and well!!

Hey, if the guy plays good, then I'll be happy. I just like to see problems we have addressed.

Everybody thinks we are going to lose a DE next year. We would be wise not to. Ealy has a lot to learn about pass rushing and one year might not be enough time. Hardy broke out in year 3 after a disappointing second year. You saw an attitude change coincide with his success. We shouldn't give Ealy the job if he hasn't earned it yet.

people keep on spouting this poo, but they don't give any real answers for how we are going to address those needs, esp. OT.

company line: the answer is on the roster or gettleman knowz what he's doing, but what exactly is he doing to make a bad line better?

Do u even watch the panthers? Do u not notice how frequently we rotate guys on the dl? He may not be depthed as a starter but he will play plenty of snaps.

Its also possible hes actually better than cj and hardy and earns a starting spot. (As unlikely that sounds, the possibility exists).

This is a great point to make. The reason our defense was so successful thru all 4 quarters is because our DL stays fresh. I also think that was the main reason we lost all those 4th quarter games about 2 years back. DL got tired and got gashed by the opponents run game.

I see too many people here looking for instant gratification, as if anyone you draft in the 1st two rounds has to be an instant starter. Rookies who start are either very, very good and NFL ready, or you have no legit starter and you're desperate- or both. Drafting a player to be a starter down the road, after seasoning and/or the departure of the current starter, is not a dumb move. It's a smart one. Hopefully Ealy's reported attitude is a non-issue and he turns out to be a steal. Personally I feel better about his talent level than I do Benjamin's, but bottom line I'll keep trusting Gettleman as long as he has a high winning % on draft picks.

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
