I love guns purely for the engineering aspect and some are just gorgeous to me.  My grandfather collected beautiful ones when he was alive.

Automatic weapons are not illegal. You just need a $200 tax stamp and boatload of cash to buy one. And I believe it takes about 8 to 12 months for the Feds to process and approve after you apply for the stamp. It's also basically the same process for buying a suppressor.

 

Now, if you own an automatic weapon and don't have the proper paperwork, you're fuged.
