AT&T Buying DirecTV for $48.5B

Fugging great, AT&T will control your TV and your internet now.

Basically we're double fugged.

I've been waiting for DirecTV to buy the rights to Dodger games here in SoCal because I know Dish won't.

Really don't want to get TWC for TV as they own the rights to dodger braodcasts and no other providers have made a deal with them yet..

Wonder what this might mean for Sunday Ticket as well.

Not to change the subject, but I grew up with the Dodgers... our parents would leave us with a babysitter when we were really young and they went to games at the Coliseum before Dodger Stadium was built. The swag they came home with- free stuff- back then was unbelievable.

I even saw Sandy Koufax pitch one of his no-hitters. I always wore #5 for Jim Lefebvre, loved Willy Davis, Maury Wills, all the guys from the 60's and early 70's.

My sister still lives out there and is a huge Dodger fan.

Last Friday, the FCC issued a public notice stating that a subsidiary of Dish Network Corporation (American H Block Wireless, L.L.C.) won the licenses for the PCS H block spectrum across the entire country. With the acquisition of the PCS H block spectrum, Dish can finally realize its dreams of becoming a player in the wireless broadband market. 150Mbps LTE-Advanced might be coming to your rural community sooner than you expected. [Read the FCC public notice]

To understand what Dish may want to do with its spectrum, we have to look back to what Dish’s goals were when it was attempting to acquire Sprint instead of SoftBank. Back then, Dish wanted to utilize Sprint’s extensive footprint with Clearwire’s extensive spectrum to support the urban areas with Sprint’s current assets and build out to support suburban and rural areas with wireless service.

Outsourced customer service? There is basically zero phone numbers to contact anyone at Direct TV in the US.

I had Direct TV, moved.. Cancelled.. Payed a cancelation fee.. And then was wrongly charged over $900.00 for 2 unreturned receiver boxes which put my account overdraft for another $300.00 for all the subsequent paid bills, gas and .70 cent gum purchases..

They admitted they made a mistake after speaking to cutomer service reps for a documented 13 hours. They agreed to refund me in 8-12 weeks!

Each rep was in India but the most helpful one was a guy named "Jerry". When prompted for his last name he reluctantly said his last name was Garcia.

Dealing with Bank of America about the overdraft charges was more of a nightmare so I got the corporate Shat Sandwich between the two. Id rather deal with Middle easterners reading prompts than actually being dished pooh to my face in the US... In a local branch.

Some serious consolidation going on telcom.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

The Smartphone is the last major consumer tech invention that still has growth.

A lot of tech products are very mature...

- Internet? Yep...

- TV.. Of course...

-Home Security? Eh .. Ok

- home phone? Lol no..

TV providers have nothing new to offer and content providers are driving up prices for cable and and Satelite. The way we consume media now also kills TV providers with no real way to account for ratings.

Telecom is a flat if not dying industry as is general IT that some venture in to. It will be interesting to see where these companies are in 8-10 years as they all shrink with no adjustment on their business models.

Hmmm, I've had DirecTV for almost 15 years now and have never spoken with anyone outside the US. I've moved with them twice, within 6 months I might add with no issues. I can honestly say I've never been on the phone for more than 15 minutes with anyone from DirecTV.

I really feel like they are one of the few services I pay for that I actually have some confidence in.

    • Nobody is giving up a 4th rounder for a backup QB And anyone who needs a starter badly enough to where Bryce would then be their starter, is such a bad team that they're not giving up a pick likely to be about pick 105ish overall, instead of just dealing with a bad QB situation for a season and then drafting one in a loaded QB draft next year. I'm looking through all the teams right now and can't think of a single one that would be willing to part with anything better than a 6th rounder. Barring injuries (and excluding the Panthers), there look to be 10 teams who don't know with 100% certainty who their starting QB will be in 2027... Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Vikings, Colts, Saints, Falcons, Cardinals, and Rams. Of those 10...  The Rams know it will be Stafford or Simpson.  The Saints more than likely will be sticking with Shough unless he takes a huge step backwards.  So neither are giving up any draft picks for Bryce right now, just wouldn't make sense for either. Down to 8 Given their current QB situation of having multiple QBs they already need to evaluate between this year, the Browns (Shedeur/Watson), Vikings (Kyler/JJ), Colts (Jones/Richardson/Leonard), and Falcons (Penix/Tua), wouldn't be giving up a 4th (or maybe any pick) to bring in another QB to muddy the waters even more. Down to 4 Dolphins just signed Willis and wouldn't want to bring in another small Alabama QB who has struggled after just dumping Tua instead of just rolling with Ewers as the backup.   That then leaves the Steelers, Cardinals, and Jets left as it's clear none of them have any idea who their 2027 could be as of right now.  But the Steelers would for sure rather just see what one of the 2 QB's they drafted in the last 2 drafts could become than give up a mid round pick for Bryce.  Same goes for the Cardinals in taking Beck this past weekend. The Jets would be the most likely team to even consider taking him on, but I think it seems very apparent right now given them rolling with Geno and now talk of bringing in Wilson to be his backup, they're punting on QB this year to draft someone next year, so why give up even a mid round pick for Bryce?
    • Honestly I am not sure Pickett couldn’t step in for him. But I don’t see a clear easy upgrade and we are not KC with Alex Smith we are a team that hadn’t done poo for almost ten years and just made the playoffs. And looked good in the game. That stadium atmosphere on that day…. you know Tepper ate that poo up. Not one drink has been thrown in a while.  You had better make sure if you replaced him after that that you had a sure fire upgrade.
    • Makes sense. If Bryce is ass this year, we are probably drafting our new QB next draft and sitting him behind Bryce for a year
