Hosts compliment his first season, DG calls it beginners luck with a chuckle.

Talks about scouting for the Bills, learning from Bill Polian who taught him a lot. Names Bob Ferguson as well.

Hosts talk about the consensus team needs. DG says he has a plan and a process, and confidence in the plan and process. He trusts his department. It takes time to build a roster, your not gonna fix it over night. He feels they needed to be patient and use every avenue possible. He still has free agency, trades, and waiver claims.

Hosts talk about KB. Can't coach size line from DG again. "Football is a big mans game. Yeah you're gonna have little guys that run around and make things happen sometimes. I'm not denying that but at the end of the day it's a big mans game." Kelvin is very gifted. Had a consistent year. Brings up stats for last 4 games. He has things to learn, he can help in red zone right now. He's a terrific kid, they spent a lot of time with him on and off the field.

Host asks about KB expectations. DG expects he improves over the course of the season and they need to put him in a position to succeed. They feel he will be an important piece by the end of the year.

Hosts brings up Tight Ends. Greg is important and wasn't going anywhere. WR heavy draft and free agency. Eludes that having Greg gives Cam familiarity with all the changes at WR. Brandon Williams is really coming on, they feel he will become a vertical threat this year. Some of the young wideouts they feel good enough about to take the approach they did.

Hosts ask about Offensive Tackle: "The bottom line is, hopefully in time we will have another Jordan Gross" . Gives line about reaching. "Those top 5 tackles were off the board, Miami took the last guy Juwan James 15 or 16, whatever." From that point on he looked for value. They did not adress it. Byron and Nate are better bets than what fell to them later in the draft. Nate started nine games, went 7-2 with him, needs reps. Byron was a LT in college and left handed. He sees maturation, gives line about the answer being on our roster. They were not going to be able to address it in free agency because of their cap situation. They feel good about it.

Host asks about Charles Godfrey and FA secondary: Gettleman wants to put players in a place to be succesful. Charles is better suited to play corner. They had a change of philosophy in their secondary it's not as big of a change as Nate Chandler. Brings up Bucs tall receivers, jokes he will send our guys out with "High Heeled Sneakers and broom sticks". The move is to bigger corners, Charles is athletic and instinctive.

Host asks about trade over skype: All the work was done at HQ, Skype was just for communication, worked great. Brandon Bean, Don Gregory, and Ron did great. They felt strongly about Bene, were surprised he was there in the 5th and felt like he was an important piece to go after. Very quick deliberation to get Bene Benwikere.

Hosts tries to dance around Hardy troubles, Gettleman shuts him down. The legal process will take its course.

I'm surprised it has to be said for the 54235785443567888975th time.

Please give a brief synopsis or "recap" for those unable to view or listen. If you start the thread commit to it.

Gettleman's responses in bold

You had a good success in year 1 as a GM?

lol, some call it begginers luck.

How did your days as a scout in Buffalo help you?

Bill Polian taught me a lot. It was a great a forum because I was taught by some of the vets there (mentioned 2 others by name's nobody would recognize)

What was it like not having any receivers from last year and your qb in a boot at one point in the offseason?

The bottom line is you have to have a plan and process you have confidence in, and I dont want to sound arrogant but I did.

It takes patience, at that point in time people were still having sleepless night but we had a plan and were confident in it with free agency, draft and possible trades coming up.

The bottom line is you can't coach his mesearuubles. Football is a big mans game. Yes sometimes lil guys run aroound and make plays but it is a big mans game.  Kelvins last 4 games were amazing. 22 catchs, 22 ypc average, etc. He's a terrifc kid, we spent a lot of time with him working him out.

What kind of expectations do you have for KB?

The expecatations that he get's better. and improves over the entire season. We obvisouly have to put him in a position to succeed. Some players have a good year in year 1 then they're a bust..I tell people, how many HS seniors go to college and become all americans year 1? Very rare and unsual. Expectations are for him tom play and improve. Naturally gifted. We think he's going to be an important piece for us this year.

How much comfrot did you have with Olsen already on the roster and the signing of Dickson?

Absolutely, Greg's an important staple in the passing attack, he wasn't  not going anywhere. It was not only a wr heavy draft, it was a wr heavy free agency. We think Brandon Williams is going to be a vertical threat this year as he is really coming on. We felt good about our approach and filling in through the draft.

Gross is gone, never addressed it in free agency or the draft (aside from the canadian). Talk about the competition there and what youre looking for in Gross's replacement.

Hopefully in time we will have another Jordan Gross. When youre in the draft, you get in trouble when you reach The top 5 tackles were gone, Miami took the last one in Juwan James.  From that point on, I dont care what you say youre going to look for value. Reality is Byron and Nate are better values than who was avaiable. Nate needs reps, Byrons going to get the opportunity at LT, hes a natural left hander and played their in college. Sometimes you have to watch the games, practice and maturation and sometimes the answer is on your roster.

On the secondary moves, moving Godfrey and the other additions?

A big part of being successful. Big part of being successful is putting your players in position to be sucessful. Godfrey is better suited to player Corner. So far so good, he's played there and he's comfortable. If you take a look we are playing Tampa this year and I was joking with their gm that we are going to send our db's out there in high heel sneakers and broomsticks. They have 3 guys 6'5 and up.

The move is to bigger corners. Charles has the tools that led us to believe he has a lot of upside at corner.

You got another corner in the draft by making a trade via skype at your sons graduation, how did that go?

Bottom line is everything is done back here (charlotte). Skype worked great, process was exactly the same. complimented beane, Rivera and Gregory on keeping it the same. Did'nt think Bene would be there in the bottom of the 5th, so we agreed "lets do it".

Generally speaking what happens/the process when a player gets into off field issues/trouble?

Can't go there. Let the legal process take its course.

*Theres going to be grammer errors, not going back to edit but thats 99% of everything.

hmmmm he put james in with the other top OTs and said bell/chandler when better than the options leftd..... i thought the role of drafting BPA, is not worrying about the roster but taking the BPA. plus the panthers need a RT too!!(and depth) why ignore the OL so much while putting alot of attention on DL. steel sharpers steel, a wood OL doesnt become steel form practicing against a steel DL.

also said they changed the philosophy for CB, they want bigger guys. talked about the week one match-up with TB. currently just about all DBs are 6 foot +.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
