We can wish them good luck, but it's on them to make the most of their opportunity.  Mike Goodson has not done that. He predictably got axed from the Jets.

 

 

Last May -- two months after signing a three-year, $6.9 million deal -- the running back was arrested on marijuana and weapons charges. He skipped training camp. Then he was suspended for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. After returning, Goodson lasted less than two games and just seven carries before he tore his ACL and MCL in Week 6. He was put on injured reserve. He then went AWOL this summer leading to his ultimate release.

 

"We're in the human business," Idzik said of how the team tried to aid the running back, per Newsday. "You can do as much research as you can (but you can't predict certain behaviors)."

Goodson obviously decided to go the way of other potential stars.

It's a shame to waste your God given talent. The fact that he made more than most will make in a lifetime and never took it seriously just annoys me. Commit yourself to what you're doing; there will be plenty of time for goofing off when you retire at 35!

Effort without talent is a depressing situation.  Talent without effort is a tragedy.

He managed to last in the league for a few years when he obviously didn't take it seriously so some people obviously saw potential in him. Imagine his career path if he put the time in.

There's a reason why we traded him to Oakland for an OT of theirs who never panned out.  Now, neither he nor Bruce Campbell are currently employed by an NFL team.  That's not all that surprising.

Well no teammate, coach or anyone can get ahold of Goodson...even his agent just scolded him about "simple communication"

This does not sound promising for the guy who I thought was having depression at A&M battling coaches and taking a reduced role.
