Not really. We kept our strength a strength. If we're putting our chips on Ealy, then he needs at least a year to develop into a starter.

Keep our strengths and strength. Hmm sounds like Hurney and our RBs. Sure you can do that, but you also leave all of your weaknesses weak. We sure could've helped our weaknesses with 13 mil.

Exactly.  I honestly think the plan was to sign him long-term and that got nixed after this latest stunt.  If that's what happened, then I understand.  But this whole idea of him never being part of the long-term plan?  I'm not buying it at all.  We know that the Panthers were in long-term negotiations with Hardy prior to using the franchise tag on him and there were reports that those negotiations were ongoing after the tag.  Wonder what could've changed those plans?

It just seems like the Panthers are trying to save face here and are actually making themselves look worse for it.  Openly saying you blew your cap space on franchising a young DE knowing he wasn't a part of your future plans makes pretty much everyone scratch their heads.  Saying that the arrest changed those plans and now we're taking a wait and see approach makes a ton of sense.

Difference here is that Hurney grossly overpaid for our RBs (who then suffered from a crappy OL, poo coaching and injuries). Gettleman simply tagged an elite DE to keep the core together and to give Ealy time to adjust.

He went from a top 10 lock to a 5th round pick to a part of one of the most dominant DLs in the league.

Decker is a poor example.  He only got $15M guaranteed.  The Jets can walk away from that contract after two years with no penalty.  They got a good deal on Decker.

yeah, having 18mil tied up in rb's and a lb year after year isn't the same as keeping much more than a luxury in Hardy for 1 year..

 

 

the only spot I'm really concerned with is LT..  we'll have to see how that shakes out.  If they get some picks for Hardy then that's a major plus..

You act like that's our only weakness. Other than WR, Offensive tackle and depth as well as CB are our weak points as well. We could've gotten at least 3 solid players to help in any of those areas.

Decker is barely a #2. He got exposed big time at the Super Bowl. I'm not so sure if it was a good deal.

 

Decker's a damn good WR.  That entire Denver offense got schooled in that SB.  Can't just blame it on one WR.  You tried to make a point and picked a bad example.  It happens to all of us.
