Why did you become a Panther fan?

Started following the NFL when it first aired on british television in 1983.

Different teams shown every week, so didn't really follow a team liked Riggins and Darrell Green of the redskins

and Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen of the Raiders.

Decided to follow the Panthers the day the Frachise was announced - (luckily Jacksonville was granted later).

Used to follow the games on play by play on NFL.com.

Now usually get a stream of Panthers games if they are not on T.V. Don't like late games as we are 5 hours ahead

Channel 4 baby.

I remember those days too. I grew up a Miami fan with Marino, Duper and Clayton leading the way. I remember after they lost to the 49ers in the SB that I had found the team I hated the most too LOL. Having learned more about the game and being a sucker for the underdog I slowly began rooting for another team in the NFC west. Don't hate me for this guys but I became a fan of the Saints and the Dome Patrol led by a Mr Sam Mills. I would later visit America and the Superdome was the first stadium these eyes ever saw. We just drove by it but I remember being in awe of it. It looked like a space ship to me.

Later on while visiting NC I went into a sports store, at the time obviously the Panthers didn't exist but hanging in front of me as I walked in was a NO Saints 57 jersey. Rickey Jacksons jersey, the sack monster of the Dome Patrol. That right there was my first NFL purchase.

2 years later I would move to America in 94, Raleigh. 1 year later the Panthers came along and Bam, there you have it. I remember to this day being at work and checking out the paper when the expansion draft went down and seeing who we picked up, a bunch of hasbeens and never wases. Having the Panthers in the same division as the 9ers and Saints just made it even more special. Its been nothing but the men in black and blue for me ever since. I like many felt it was a team made specially for me. Getting to watch this team start from scratch has been awesome. I can honestly say I was there when I tell the grandkids years from now.

The year was 1995. I was 5 years old and a new sports fan in general. At the same time, Carolina was new to the sports world and I loved their logos and colors. That logo was enough to make me a fan despite being from Maine. I have followed the team ever since. I used to "watch" every Panther game of every season on ESPNs GameCast... This was before the age of Internet live streams.

I had just taken a job at Carolinas Med Center, gotten an apartment, a builder for a house...I was moving to Charlotte from Richmond, Va. I grew up a Skins fan in PA, but the same week of my relocation the NFL announced the newest franchise, the Carolina Panthers. I was hooked. New city, new team! The job ultimately fell through, but my love for the Panthers and the city of Charlotte endures. I went to see them play for the first time during the inaugural season at RFK against Washington, and I'm positive I was the only Panthers fan there. My love for them will never wane, and I still plan on moving to Charlotte to retire on Lake Norman, with PSL's in hand.

I'm 25 and can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't a panthers fan. Growing up watching and going to the games with my dad has made me a diehard fan. I can't wait to raise another generation who wont remember anything but being a Panthers fan!

    • The guy has not coach college in ten years and in that span its greatly changed. Still take him over Davis, I want to see the presser and if billy still has fire in his eyes for college non-sense.....plus you know billy will want a multi-million staff.  This is interesting, very....... glad the old guard FINALLY steps aside......
    • Truth. Like when UNC hired Butch Davis and then we get hit for recruiting violations. Like yeah, no poo. Dude coached Miami when they we paying like the 33rd NFL team. What did you expect?
    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 2 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ?? There's waiver claims too, they have done that each year.
