You are correct. They can go 6 weeks into the season on pup and then be tossed to IR. You will see how the Patriots play it.

Gettleman was trying to save a few bucks on the salary cap and lost Gaffney.

Out of curiosity, how exactly would you have handled the situation with Gaffney? In detail if you can please.

Alright lets start with this past Super Bowl: (Since it is recent I put players on there that started but you may not know)

Luke Willson, Kam Chancellor, K.J. Wright, Richard Sherman, Malcolm Smith, Walter Thurmond, Red Bryant, J.R. Sweezy, Julius Thomas, Danny Trevathan, and Malik Jackson.

Okay, now for the 4 Super Bowls prior to Seattle v Denver: (Only listing the players you should know if you follow football)

Dennis Pitta, Delanie Walker, NaVorro Bowman, Ray McDonald, Isaac Sopoaga, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jacobs, Domenik Hixon, David Diehl, Aaron Hernandez, Julian Edelman, Tom Brady, Donald Driver, Jermichael Finley, Scott Wells, Hines Ward, Antonio Brown, Ike Taylor, Brett Keisel, Chris Kemoeatu, Marques Colston, Jahri Evans, Zach Strief, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Clint Session, Antoine Bethea, Robert Mathis, Raheem Brock, Antonio Johnson, and Ryan Diem.

Pro Bowlers are in bold so you don't miss them. Once you hit the end of the 3rd round near the compensatory picks, that is where you measure a GMs success. Their picks up to #90 should never be a miss. So, that is where you measure a GMs failures. When the GMs failures outweigh their success you know to start looking for a new GM.

There are more, but you would not know who they are even though they started for a Super Bowl team.

All teams with GMs that keep their teams stocked year in and year out.

Jesus christ if scouting 5th 6th and 7th round is so easy as you seem to make it out to be then why aren't you the gm of a football team? Or why aren't more Day 3 picks on rosters and constantly getting into probowls.

But uh real talk I'm about to put you on Blast you might want to sit down for a second

Your argument here is we lost a 6th round draft pick, depth. And you're right we did.

But as you so pointed out yourself, of 31 players you listed, only 11 of those guys were pro-bowlers. And of the remaining 20, several of them were solid starters or just replacable role players. Something that is also worth pointing out, which you didn't bring up, quite a few of those players were bought in by different regimes and GMs than the ones that went to the super bowl.

Also quite a few of them were third and fourth round picks, which hit more consistently than 5th-7th.

So honestly, what's your point? Gaffney might've been the next Alfred Morris? Possibly. Who knows. But he wasn't helping us this year. Gettleman did what he should've done, put him on waivers and then IR so you can bring in someone who can actively participate now.

So you can see what you have.

So you can build a team with Pro Bowlers, Starters and Role Players based on what you see in training camp. As you said, keeping them "Stacked with Talent."

You know, like the teams did with the player you listed above did.

Not by holding on to a what if and waisting a spot in TC by holding on to a guy who "might be something."

I am never going to understand how you're saying Gman fuged up by doign what any other of the 31 GMs in the NFL would've done.

Or are you really saying Gettleman is a failure based off of a 6th round player who wasn't going to play at fuging all this year

Even Though it sounds like his third and fifth round draft picks this year Are Doing Pretty Good

OH and his  5th round draft pick stepped up when asked to last year as well.

Idk man sounds like you're just whining.

Of the last 10 Super Bowl teams all 42 were good players/impact players and 14 were pro bowlers. Pretty impressive by those GMs. Not sure why you insist on not counting the Seahawks and Broncos. But either way you come up wrong.

Something that is also worth pointing out, which you didn't bring up, quite a few of those players were bought in by different regimes and GMs than the ones that went to the super bowl.

Umm. No. Do your homework. And a tip. Most of those GMs had been in place for a decade or longer.

Also quite a few of them were third and fourth round picks, which hit more consistently than 5th-7th.

Just of the Pro Bowl players who were on a Super Bowl team the past 5 seasons, 10 of 14 were 5th round or later. And if you negate this past Super Bowl, then 8 of 11 were 5th round or later. You may want to check your use of "quite a few" and "consistently",

The thing is, Gaffney, right now got ability. But painful as it may be, ability don't last. He's injured and his days are just about over. Now that's a hard motherfugin' fact of life, but that's a fact of life his ass is gonna have to get realistic about. See, this business is filled to the brim with unrealistic motherfugers. Motherfugers who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't.

Besides, how many carries do you think a 6th round pick got in him anyhow? Running backs don't have an old timers day. He came close but he never made it, and if he were gonna make it, he would have made it before now.

Now I know we feel a slight sting, cause it's the Patriots and all. That's pride f-ckin with ya'll. F-ck pride! Pride only hurts, it never helps. We gotta fight through that sh-t. 'Cause a year from now, when we're kicking it with that Lombardi trophy, ya'll gonna say to yourself, "R0CKnR0LLA was right."

This Carolina Panther fanbase is starting to become a bunch of whiny b*tches that complain about EVERYTHING.

The change from the Hurney philosophy where every player regardless of ability is a Panther for life to the Gettleman philosophy where every player is evaluated strictly on tangible value is clearly still a tough pill to swallow for some.

That and relatively speaking we are a younger fan base not accustomed to success. Therefore we wait for every bad break, no matter how minute, to confirm the idea in our minds that has grown over the years that we are perpetual losers.

It's like Browns fans, except they get national attention for their bad fortunes and we actually have the pieces in place to get out of this rut of consistent inconsistency.

Alright morons who are defending this here is the short version:

- We wasted a 6th round pick. It vanished into thin air. We have nothing at all to show for it.

- We lost a player. Regardless of potential, he was a guy we thought highly enough of to draft. No matter what happens in his career from here forward, he's an asset. If you look at this like "LOL he's just some scrub RB!!!", then you're the dumb one.

- We lost our $100,000 investment into this player as we've already paid his signing bonus. The Patriots get a free 6th round pick and $100,000 just for putting a waiver claim on a player we had ZERO incentive to waive at this point in time. We made the move far too early. This was a rookie GM mistake. And for a guy that is so highly regarded as a numbers guru it's remarkable that he made this mistake.

tl;dr for the knuckle draggers, if you like Gettleman or not this is inexcusable asset management. Go ask JR how he feels about losing $100,000 and a 6th round pick because Gettleman shuffled paperwork wrong. That's real money. That's a real draft pick.

So you're telling me you'd be mad at Gettleman for doing something routine thatall GMs do with injured players.

Okay.

    • I thought Matt Rhules felt like a traveling preacher/sewing machine salesman. Then I thought Reich had the emotions of the captain of a baby seal clubbing team. I kind of like Canales and think he may be adaptable in today's NFL. I know we need to to see it but does he not give you guys hope too, or will he get his moniker too? (My bad, tired of looking at the same thread titles)
