A friend of ours was delivering a piece of furniture to a guy out in the country and he had the shotgun in hand to put down this 15lb female beagle because she won't hunt rabbits, according to him. Covered in fleas and dirt, she was off to the vet...

Now with all her shots, a good bath and she was spayed Tuesday; we'll try to find her a home. Had never set foot in a house before, was scared of everyone and still cowers when approached. Very quiet, but loves running around the yard.

Hopefully we'll find her a good home. It'll take nothing but time for her to trust again... but she's getting better everyday.

Nice looking dog. I have a beagle too. Not for hunting just a good ole house dog. Besides the shedding he does. Country folks always said beagles are used for hunting only. No talking to them or nothing. Not the first time I've heard of someone wanting to shoot there beagle because they wouldn't hunt anymore.

I breed raise train hunt and field trial akc beagles. And all us rabbit hunters aren't like that. That guys a sorry excuse. If for some reason it doesn't turn into a hunting dog we find a home for it. We don't have this problem very often though. We breed for a purpose not just to watch them fug. Good luck with the beagle they are awesome dogs. She's a good looking beagle

We'll find a good home for her once we can get her settled and a little more trusting. She trembles a lot and the slightest loud noise or sudden movement has her cowering. She's getting better by the day and we're working with a local animal advocate once she's ready for a new home.

My question is this... she's less than 12" tall; are there varying sizes of beagles and are there different names for those sizes? Admittedly, this is the smallest dog we've fostered and I know very little about the breed.

The akc standard is 13" beagles and 15" beagles. To be considered 13" is to measure 13" or under there is no such thing as too small in that class. The 15"s have to measure over 13" and not over 15". If over 15 they are too large

Here's the latest pic...

She's actually trying to run with our 95lb Rotti-Husky-Dobie-St.Bernard mix and wagging her tail occasionally. She simply loves to be touched. I feel bad I have to leave for the weekend, but I think she's going to be okay and we'll likely begin searching for a suitable home next week.

I've been around a lot of beagles and have seen a handful that their heart just wasn't into hunting. The ones I've seen that want hunt normally are a very nervous shy type of dog. Don't know why it just happens sometimes sorta like posters majority post good stuff 1% post crap. Also I'd pay to see your beagle catch a wild rabbit while it's on a leash

Only happened once. We were in a little corner park just walking along. And she throws her head into a bush and comes out with a rabbit. Here rabbits are like mosquitos in the south
