Size of Practice Squad Expected to Increase

From 8 players to 10 players per Rotoworld

How do you think this affects our upcoming decisions now?

The NFL is expected to increase the size of practice squads from eight to ten players this season.

That opens up 64 more jobs across the league, and each team will now employ 63 players. Teams will love it, as they're now able to stash even more potential talent and develop more youngsters across the season.

I agree with the idea.

Frankly, if it were up to me, the active roster limit would also be increased (to 55).

I agree. And gameday inactives would be a thing of the past. If they are on the active roster, they should be able to be active on gameday.

I'm actually okay with the whole 'gameday inactive' thing for the rationale behind it.

I don't necessarily think it needs to be eight players though.  I'd say five is enough, even on an expanded roster.

I agree with this.  I have never fully understood why if you are on the active roster you can't dress.

I like the 10 practice squad players but I don't care that you have to waive them first.  Risking losing a player you have spent time on developing.

Increase the roster size to 63 allow for 53 active and 10 practice squad but you can call any up at any time.  Kind of like baseball does with pitchers in the minors.  They bring one up for a spot start and option another player to the AAA club until they are finished with the spot start.

Keep the tenure rule for Practice Squad too.

    • Lions were never going Freeling over Miller for the same reason we wouldn't have taken Miller had Freeling not been on the board. Miller is a career RT Lions have a hole at RT, we have a hole at LT. If we took Miller, it would have been for him to backup Moton until he retires and/or we release him, so the best case scenario is it would have been a wasted 1st round pick for at least 1, if not 2 years.  At least Freeling has a shot at playing this year without injury ahead of him, he absolutely can win the LT job if he earns it, but Miller would have never supplanted Moton this year unless he got hurt.
    • What up y’all. I like threads like this where we can stroll down memory lane. I remember the insane amount of site traffic pre-crash when we signed Keyshawn Johnson, 06 I believe. Raging about the Cowboys Christmas Eve loss in 05 (Peppers touched that FG attempt as sure as Cotchery caught it). When I found the huddle I basically had a first born baby, now I’ve got one in college and one in high school. Life comes at you fast, but the Panthers and the Huddle has been a steady constant in my life for many years.  Those who have been here, y’all are cool with me any time any where.    Cheers, genitals!
    • This is a weird post since it wasn’t like we got A’s across the board. We needed a QB and got a consensus top 2 player at that position. (I was pretty vocal that Stroud should’ve been the guy but…)  I think this draft we generally got better value. I’m not particularly optimistic on BY but another year in this offense playing with TMac he really needs to be a consistently average QB at a minimum
