Friday night huge test for Kelvin and WR core

Recommended Posts

I agree the receivers going up against a great team like the Patriots will weed out the good players from player who can actually help the Panthers. I think Rivera will leave the starters out there longer than many think because Cam needs the work. The O-line and receivers. need to work on blitz pickup and timing with Cam. I don't mind resting the D after the 1st quarter

You can't teach size, guys. KB gon' get his regardless.

But seriously, I expect him to struggle a bit, but nothing that will raise alarms. He will fight through tough coverage, get double teamed, etc, but so early in the game, he shouldn't show fatigue. The real evaluation will come when he gets into the 4thQ in the reg season after fighting everything the first string D gives him for the first 45 min.

The 3rd preseason game tends to be teams dress rehearsal. I for one am actually happy it's against the Pats. Kelvin will get the chance to go up against 2 top corners in Reavis and Browner. I feel this is huge from an experience factor and will serve as an early measuring stick. Say what you want about Reavis, he may not be Reavis island of old but he's still one of the better corners in the league and Browner is no slouch. I'm glad KB13 gets this trial by fire now when it doesn't count. I will be interested to see how the pats play him, man up or double him over the top and how our other WR's respond and step up if he is doubled. I think this is the perfect game at the perfect time! It can't come sooner!

The Pats may treat this like the 3rd game, we already had our. But...in a sense, you are right. Their starters will be against ours for at least a quarter, if not more. So it should be a good test.

Because of the short week. We played Sunday night, and play again on Friday, we may not play this like a normal 3rd game. But...who knows.

I was thinking more from the pats perspective, we should see more of what we would see if it were a regular season game. I feel with the lack of rhythm established with cam and the wr core this should also be treated as close to a regular season game as possible

You very well could be right. But then again, it depends on how the week of practice goes. If Cam looks good in practice, he may not get much playing time. If he looks like he needs some time with his WRs, he may get more time. Too early to tell.

If Brandon LaFell catches a TD pass against us I'm probably turning off my radio until the season starts :(

I thought I was the only one who watches the games, and listens to the radio. Too much fun to miss out on Mick's flubs, and Robinson's insights.

Another way to look at it is, our 2nd and 3rd stringers will get work against their first stringers. It will allow us to see how our kids look against actual starting line-ups. Good for us in a way.

We treated the KC game as our dress rehearsal and we did well.

NE will probably have this as a dress rehearsal and we won't.

Score might get nasty.  Don't Implode  I hate seeing the "OMG We are Going 2-14" Threads

The Huddle melted down during our first three drives last week. Why would it be different if we lose to a Pats team that is playing its starters into the second half?

Personally, until told otherwise, I see Cam playing as long as he needs to. 1st quarter we play well he is done. 2nd quarter if he needs the reps, he stays. It all depends on how well he plays, how well we mesh, and how well the O looks in general.

Well, if we do see a fair amount of Patriot starters vs Panther backups, then the Huddle will be able to get plenty of overreaction practice in before the season starts.

Practice?  A good number of us are in mid season form already.

Don't think for a minute Bill Belichick is coming to evaluate his players or win the game. He will embarrass the cats if he can. He has a vindictive personality and does not forget last years game. I think we have what it takes to thwart any such intentions, however. This game should be fun!!!!
