Eli Manning looking like poo again

NFL.com today:

"The Giants offense has been a disaster in the preseason...This group is not ready for the regular season....Eli Manning is struggling to pick up offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's new system. In theory, it made sense to change things up after a decade of Kevin Gilbride. But perhaps we underrated how difficult it would be for such a longtime veteran to change to a brand new system. McAdoo's Green Bay-influenced system focuses on quick decisions and accuracy. Even when Manning is at his best, those aren't necessarily his strengths... First-round pick WR Odell Beckham could practically have a redshirt season after a lost training camp related to his hamstring injury. Tight end remains unsettled, with Kellen Davis , Daniel Fells and Larry Donnell leading the way... the offensive line remains a work in progress.... The Giants signed two new starters for their beleaguered offensive line, although one of those ( Geoff Schwartz ) is already injured

...

POSITIVES

The running game looks vastly improved despite the retirement of David Wilson and another injury to Peyton Hillis ... Running back Rashad Jennings adds a capable set of hands for Eli Manning to check down to. ... Jennings looks like what the Giants paid for: A capable innings eater that can handle all three downs. That's much better than they had a year ago. Rookie RB Andre Williams is a bigger surprise; he looks ready to make a big instant impact.... Offseason punching bag WR Rueben Randle looks like a potential breakout candidate after a nice month. Tom Coughlin is even complimenting him now!

...

The Giants added cornerbacks Walter Thurmond (from Seattle's Legion of Boom) and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (from the Broncos) to the secondary. This was a top-ten defense a year ago (#8 in fewest ypg allowed), and it has room to improve if Jason Pierre-Paul is back to his normal healthy self this year."

his last two preseason games:

Sat vs PIT - 2 drives (punt, punt)

Sat @ IND - 4 drives (punt, punt, punt, punt)

**0 of 2 for zero yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 1 sack, 39.6 rating

**1 of 7 for 6 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 1 sack, 39.6 rating

This is what happens when chosen QBs lose their O-Line.  After so many hits, they become shell shocked. That is why u guys need to appreciate what Cam is going through with your O-line from day one.

Love me some Eli, but I must agree.

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
