You rock Byron!

It's a first impression thing.  Some people see Bell make a bad play and it stands out like a led light in your eye.  They can't get it out of their heads that he is the worst tackle in football.  So even when out of 50 snaps he makes 2 mistakes they latch on to those 2 to use as justification for their opinion.  It would have to be a consensus of a lot of people that Bell has improved for people to see the good more than the bad.

I use the Silatolu example.  In my opinion he is not as good as everyone here makes him out to be (mostly pass protection).  So when I see him make a mistake it's glaring to me.  However it's frustrating to see the Byron Bell sucks post when Silatolu made just as many if not more mistakes.  The reverse also applies. I have re-watched some games and he didn't suck as bad as I thought he did, even though he made mistakes.

So basically the people who think Byron Bell suck will not wait to see or give him a chance. It's just like after the 2nd preseason game there were not many Byron Bell sucks post.  However after the 3rd game they came back with a vengeance. He can play good for 4 games but games like the Buffalo game last season will stand out in people who think he's the worst player ever.

I think by the end of it all, if the Oline is a legitimate problem ie Cam getting killed regularly, Byron Bell won't be the main reason.   I just don't see a way to improve the Oline without doing it through the draft.  To sign a core of players Cam, Luke, the DE's, KK and Star there gonna have to be shortcuts taken.

I doubt Byron is even better than most backups.

I guess the coaches feel like he is better then our backups.

I'm not saying he is going to be an all pro but I don't really understand all the hate for him. It's not like we paid him some crazy contract and he has underperformed.

Based on his past salary I would say he has been the least of our problems.

He's much better at OT than you are at being a fan.

Actually no. The jokes on everyone who thinks he's a passable starter at left or right tackle. Atleast he's getting paid to look like a dumb poo. You have to pay to watch his ass flail at the oncoming pass rush and you swallow it like it's fruit flavored poo.

I'm a good fan. I demand a good product when I'm paying for it. Byron Bell is not part of what I consider good product.

I don't know that it's actually as much bashing as it is telling the truth. He's not good. At all.

Yeah, because your opinion means much more than people who have been working and studying football for entire lives who actually work for the team.

This thread is being flooded with sheeple. Bell is not very good accept it. No matter how much he is a great guy and you want to like him he just sucks at football. I saw someone mention that amini is just as bad...well amini road grades people in the run game and is basically only in his second year.

I 've never seen bell destroy anyone except cams backside and that awesome practice speech.

The problem is Bell was consistently ranked one of the worst RTs in football last year.  It isn't just 2 plays a game.  It is enough plays that it is hurting your team.

I don't like to talk crap about guys on my team, l'm under no delusion that Byron is a great starting LT but he's a Panther and I'm going to remain positive about him.  He doesn't have to be great, imo we simply need him to not be terrible and I think we'll be okay.

Jesus christ...it's either Bell is the worst player better, or he's fantastic...seriously..theres gotta be a middle ground (where he actually is).  He won't be the worst OT in the league, but he's far from elite.  He does have the respect of the rest of the line and team which should mean something at the end of the day.  If he's servicable we end up in the playoffs again, if he sucks, he won't be here past this season.  It's as simple as that.

    • Possible, he is physical and a forchecker but not a needle mover, but i wouldnt mind it
    • The problem with these summary stats and rankings is that they flatten out progression and assume an even performance throughout the year. His first 3 or 4 games of the season don't really tell you anything about his current level of capacity but more about where he started and what his floor was last year. Given his last several games were against playoff teams, that gives you an idea of his current ability coming into the season. But it will serve more as a floor than a ceiling given the upgrade in talent on offense. And a better defense should give us more stops which results in shorter fields and more opportunities. And going into his third year there is no reason to suspect he will regress. His success wasn't  based on being superhuman but being smart and taking what was the defense was giving him. Distributing to the other guys not trying to do it on his own. He was great at the end when pressured and consistently moved the ball. That makes him a great game manager which is what we need. Something that is easier to do and relies on everyone else rather than having to be a top physical specimen or do it on his own. No one can predict the future but to say we haven't improved much is crazy given just having the Browns anchoring the defensive line will shut down the run and make sure QBs won't be stepping up in the pocket.  Assuming Evero got the message to can the prevent defense and bend until you break philosophy.
