So I was all set to get a PS4...

But then I got an e-mail from GameStop. Tons of great deals.

Microsoft is obviously getting desperate after their PR greed debacle last year, and that truthfully was the reason I was going PS4.

I'm about to make the jump to next gen and now I'm at a standstill.

Anybody who has both able to convince me one way or the other?

Ftr-some of the deals offered for the X1 are the Madden bundle, the Call of Duty Advanced Warfare bundle with the 1TB hard drive, or a free game with any purchase of any X1 console.

I have the Playstation 4. I also have played an Xbox one. If you're looking for the better pure gaming experience, go ps4. If you're looking for an all around entertainment system go with the Xbox one. When it comes to madden, at the midnight release the people at game stop let the people there play on the Xbox one, it was pretty good, but when I got the game and got to play it on my ps4 I liked it a lot better. I'm all about PS4 but I only use my ps4 for games and netflix. If you're looking for all the apps and other things I'd say Xbox one.

I was a 360 guy last gen, so I accustomed to the Xbox and am a little concerned about the step down to the PS4 controller. On the other hand though, I worry the X1 may be kind of samey from the 360 and not feel like a significant step up.

And those deals... Those deals are really good.

I was a die hard 360 guy last gen too. I really hate the xb1 controller. Switch was not hard whatsoever for me, except sometimes when in a party with people I'll say "press Y" or "press b"

I've always been an xbox guy, I hated the ps controllers and for me the best online play and capabilities are most important.

That said, I've also been researching and have actually been more impressed with the ps4 mainly because I want a pure gaming system, I don't need all that entertainment crap. I am a huge RPG fan as well and love my offline games, this also leaned me towards the ps4. I like knowing a company is going to spend time on making games, not new entertainment features.

If only ps4 would up their online user friendliness and abilities there would be no contest.

I'm still reading and waiting but I think my long time devotion to Xbox and Xbox live might end.

Both xbox 1 and ps4 are basically the same. Whichever console exclusives your like best, id go with that.   In order to play online you'll need a account and pay a yearly fee for either one. Playstation does offer free games as long as you keep the online subscription. There are some brand new indie games being offered for free. Kinda nice to be like, "hey theres a new game, i wonder if its any good?" Now you can check it out without waisting money. Also even  AAA titles will go up for discount too, though not as soon as its released.  Playstation is also going to offer a service(another fee)  that lets your ps4 stream ps3 games. Maybe in the future even ps2/1. I dunno about the vita or psp.  I've seen a few ps2 games being offered to "rent" for a few days. The home screen on the ps4 is more streemlined than the xbox ones and doesn't look like a windows 8 screen.  Alll options are easy to find.

You can turn on a social feature that connects your account to facebook, i dunno about twitter. I didn't link my account to it though. But it practially lets your freinds know what games your playing and what trophies you've accomplished. Trophies are the playstation equivalent to achievements. The harder the achievement the best the trophy is. Starts at bronze and works its way up to gold. Platinum is a trophy you get for getting all achievemnts in one game. Your profile displays numbers next to your avatar and id for your freinds to see. I assume that it ranks you based on how many of each you have. So thats close to a gamer score as you'll get. I got 11 and so its higher than most ive seen online. It does have a facebook looking display showing what game your currently playing, what games you have played, what achievements you've goten from said game, and other things the developers may have added to games.  I know on madden it lets people know how well your ultimate team is doing. LIke saying you have a team overall in the 80s. This feature can be private or public. Like i said i dont have my facebook linked to my psn account, but it still showed up.

The Last of Us Remastered on the PS4 is basically an interactive movie. It looks incredible (bare in mind, I also have a 1080p HDTV, so that does help). Regardless, you can look up the difference in graphics from the original PS3 version and the Remastered version for PS4.

As already stated, if you're looking at pure gaming, go PS4. Better play, better graphics, and better exclusive titles (IMO). They also have better exclusive stuff for the cross-platform titles, IMO (Destiny, for instance).

I haven't played a video game since high school. I used to be a big gamer head, then all of a sudden I just stopped playing. I'm thinking about getting back into the video game world.

If I get the Xbox1 or PS4, what do I need to play games online? Any extra devices I need to buy to play online?

Long as you have a wireless router or the ability to hook it up with a ethernet cable like you would a pc your all set to go.  Once you boot up the ps4 or xbox one it will help configure the connection. Though in order to play online against people you'll need to create an xbox live or psn account. Don't worry, after it connects to the internet the first time and downloads an update to the console it'll ask you if you want to make one.

You can buy cards at stores that give you in store credit or use your credit/debit card to thendownload games or downloadable content. Though to truely be able to play against others you'll have to pay a fee. You can choose to do it montly or yearly.

For playstation 4 you'll  have to get a playstation plus membership. It lets you play online against others and also lets your get games for a discount on the playstation store. Every so often, games will be offered to playstation plus subscribers for free. But will only work as long as your a playstation plus owner. So say you downloaded a game for free and then your playstation plus membership runs out and you dont wish to renew it. If you try to boot that game up it will ask you to get the playstation plus again and wont let you play. But if you renew it, as you should considering its the only way to play online, then you wont have any problems.  In the future ps4 owners will also be able to play ps3 and older games by streaming them to it. Kinda like streaming movies on netflix to your labtop or tablet, but instead of just watching a movie you'll be able to play a game.

The xbox one also has you paying a fee. I'm not familar with their online store, so i dunno how that works. I'm sure they offer discounts as well.
