O-line Love

Agreed, major props to the O-line.  Didn't think about it, but it was mentioned this morning, part of the positive play might have been attributed to how many O-lineman we kept on the roster, we were doing massive changes on O-line to keep them fresh due to the heat.  Still, Derek had all day to throw.  I think our Run blocking was meh, but it also could be due to the fact that the Bucs LOADED the box all game long thinking we couldn't beat them through the air with DA.  I'll be interested how they do in the run game over the next few weeks as they realize that KB is a gamechanging talent on the outside.

i was concerned, but not panicking about the OL all offseason. nothing has changed for me. the Bucs were missing alot on their DL. the real tests will come later. thankfully our guys have 5 weeks of mediocre DL opposition to get ready for the tests. When we go visit Cincy, this OL better be ready :/

Ummm... Detroit's DL is not mediocre. They could kill Cam if that interior isn't up to the challenge. Suh is a MONSTER!!! And Fairley is starting to come into his own.

i'll be honest and say that i dont know much about Fairley. Suh, though, is alot like Byron Bell in that he struggles to play at a consistently high level.

Is Trai Turner injured? I noticed Valasco started at RG over him and played well the entire game.

No, but he was during the last couple of weeks of preseason. There was some fear he wouldn't be conditioned for this game, so they just sprinkled him in.

Has Fairley even won his starting job back?

We through Folkerts in at C for a few snaps too..maybe Kalil needed a breather.  Overall I was just really impressed with the guys and what got me was their initial push inside for our draws/dive runs.  DeAngelo was consistently getting 3+ yards for most of the game.

I was very impressed wih our run blocking.  D-lo got 14 carries for 72 yards.  We had over 100 yards rushing without our running QB.  That's what I always hear complaints about.  How we can't really run it without Cam.  Well, yesterday we did.  We had balance.  And it'll get even better with Cam.  The backs were really hitting the holes to the outside and Stewart was hitting the middle hard for those 3-4 hard to get yards against a very stount Bucs interior.

For our supposedly sucky O-line to play like that against a good defense was impressive.  Over 100 yards rushing and only 1 sack.  Heck, on most plays DA had time to take a nap before he threw the ball.  I've never thought out o-line sucked.  I've said that overall I think they can be better than last year when we were so depleated at guard.

    • For a 3rd year QB? That flies with the Teppers and makes the HC and GM look like fools.  Their fear is evident. Their careers are tied to making it work, it's ehy they signed on here and they are professionals who knows what kind of a situation they could potentially have on their hands if they are not calculating about popping up Bryce. I call BS to that sir. It's why every QB after Bryce couldn't make any other rosters past a PS spot...at best
    • Not just Dalton.   But the only real young arm they would let be seen the past 2 years was a really a bad Jack Plummer.  Who was super weak even for that tier  Can’t convince me how weak they made the atmosphere around Young hasn’t been intentional.
    • Things of note: mentions he has six drops. Six. For all the people that don’t know what a drop is, he has six. That’s a long distance from the league leader at ten. (To be fair, pro football reference has him at seven, still not bad.  Plenty of others is that same range.  His drop % is 6.3, which is low.) Catchable ball success ratio: 83% which is great. Catchable being the key word.  Mentions his contested catch rate is low at 5/18 but that’ll get better I think when he can rely on muscle memory for routes, catches, etc and the game slows down for him
