I've had that movie laying around for years and have always wanted to watch it.

 

I really should.  I'm a huge Mike Judge fan.  King of the Hill is one of my favorite shows.

 

It's no amazing or anything. It makes some commentary on society. 2 out of 5 stars.

According to Florio link there are no transcripts made in a bench trial in NC. Apparently Hardy's lawyers paid for one but have yet to produce or share it.

This is 100% correct. There is no transcripts for a District Court case. The state does not pay for a person to do this. Now, Hardy's lawyer might have hired their own to gather statements to use against the complainant in Superior Court, but they are under no obligation to give those to anyone.

The best description and easiest way to understand a bench trial is it's like presenting your case to the grand jury to see if there is enough evidence to move forward and it is very seldom do you not get convicted at a bench trial.  The judges and prosecutors work together on a daily basis so neither one wants to really rock the boat which is why you can elect to have a jury trial if convicted.  My best friend was convicted at a bench trial for something he didn't do so he did the same thing as Hardy and took it to a jury trial where he was found not guilty.  It just sucks that so much of the media now are just lazy ass people and not real journalists.  People from Peter King, to Pete Prisco, to Michael Schottey don't do actual research they just latch on to what someone else says or writes and runs with it.  It's sad that these people actually get paid for the BS they spew.

Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt, that he spent all morning on the trial date (as many of us did!) following twitter feeds or researching twitter feeds....

 

Is that really how you expect a nationally known columnist to get his "facts"?  

 

Here is a much more likely scenario;  big time columnist see's word "convicted" along with "Carolina Panther" and spends zero research time on story, assuming a transcript is available to back up the zero facts on the case he put in the story.  It is the worst kind of witch hunt, a lazy one.
