So, the only ones actually punished in this whole sordid mess is the Panthers.

W T F ?

This is true.  NFL keeps their good public image.  Greg Hardy keeps getting paid.  Rivera and Gettleman lose out on one of their best players they are paying a bunch of money too.  I would be understandably pissed too.

You mean a mess caused by Greg Hardy?  Like Rivera said, everybody is looking to blame someone.  There is only one person to blame.  The Panthers are moving forward.  This was in the best interests of the team to know have the team deal with this every week.

I LOVE Ron Rivera.  No wonder the players love him.  Did a fantastic job with that press conference.

He looked like he was ready to chew nails.

The way that ended was just weird.  First he tells Charlie Drayton "I'm okay".  Then a short time later, he says an abrupt "goodbye" and walks away.  Then he walks back, gives out some injury info and walks away again.

That might be the weirdest Panthers presser ever.

Charlie Dayton has been with the organization since day 1, so he has seen it all. I am surprised he let it go on as long as he did.

Steve Reed @ SteveReedAP 3m

Either Wes Horton or Mario Addison will start. Addison is

more of a situational pass rusher. Will platoon them.

David Newton @DNewtonespn 4m

Rivera doesn't rule out starting Mario Addison vs. Wes

Horton, but says Mario is more situational type player.

Joe Person @ josephperson 4m

Rivera says Panthers with replace Greg Hardy with a platoon

involving Ealy, Horton and Addison.

I am sitting here trying not to be pissed off.  Pissed off at the entire situation.

I could be jumping to conclusions, but based off the information presented, IMHO it feels as though a drugged up money grubbing woman vindictively and spitefully pressed charges against Hardy in an attempt at retribution for breaking up with him.

Though he may not be completely innocent of any wrong doing, I feel he is not guilty of domestic abuse.  Losing 10+ games in this situation is absolutely egregious!!

If I am correct in my assumptions, hope somewhere her smug ass feels the slightest bit of regret for possibly hindering his career and ruining his reputation that was just starting to become a household name.

Of course caused by Hardy, you maroon.

MY question is why are the Panthers the only party receiving negative consequences?

They weren't culpable in any of the original transgressions.

Hardy's choice.

What would you do if you were the NFL? With the NOW, governers, Albright, and Budweiser coming after you? This is a lose-lose situation for everybody involved.

Haha yea Hardy's choice...good one....

I would stand up for myself and not be bullied around...there isn't a shortage of sponsors as far as that goes...not worried about that.

I would let the legal system play out and then hand out punishments as it pertains to all actions/issues that are of that nature.

This is where Goodell has ruined himself is that he hasn't always waited...if he had always waited then punished there wouldn't be as much of an issue because people would know that punishment wouldn't be far away if found guilty or in the case of Rice after nothing happens in the legal system but the case was finished and video was reviewed.

Hardy could be found innocent and then would have been punished along with the rest of the team/players since he didn't play. That's way worse and affects more people than letting the system play out completely.

So now someone can go up to and accuse someone of something and they are put down on a list until the entire process plays out? no matter the outcome? Terrible and stupid precedent to set.

    • If Mays has a market, which it seems he will, he's gone.  I think we bring back Nijman for too much money to be cautious at LT, Corbett comes back cheap since he's already said he wants to live in CLT, and Christensen eventually gets re-signed with the hopes he can be depth at some point.  Draft an OT, draft a C. The OL might be rough for stretches next year, but time to get some youth there to prepare for Bryce in 2027 or the next QB. I still think we compete for the division in 2026 and can go back to the playoffs unlike the oddsmakers in Vegas, but the *real* year is 2027 IMO. Either Bryce has proven it and he's the QB looking at his 2nd contract, or we have the ready-made team for the next rookie QB or Vet we trade for.
    • The Panthers are going to have a lot more flexibility in free agency than it looks like at first glance. On paper, the cap space might seem tight, but there are several obvious restructure candidates that could easily free up significant room. Between converting base salaries into signing bonuses and spreading cap hits out over future years, Carolina could realistically clear $60–80 million in additional space if they wanted to be aggressive. That kind of flexibility means they’re not stuck. They can extend key young pieces, add help along the offensive line, upgrade the defense, and still be strategic about value signings. Letting Cade Mays test the market makes sense from a leverage standpoint. If he’s willing to come back on a team-friendly deal, great, continuity on the line matters. But if his market price climbs, the Panthers should absolutely explore upgrades. The point is, this front office isn’t boxed in. With cap maneuvering and smart structuring, they have the ability to be active players in free agency rather than sitting on the sidelines like we are used too.
