David Newton, ESPN:

Wes Horton played first and second down for much of the 24-7 victory over the Detroit Lions. He occasionally gave way to second-round draft pick Kony Ealy. He was the run-stopper, doing the dirty work that doesn't draw headlines. Mario Addison came in on third down and obvious passing situations. He got the headlines with 2.5 sacks.

...

What Sunday showed was the Panthers not only have one of the best fronts in the NFL, they have one of the deepest.

"Absolutely," Horton said. "It doesn't matter who gets the start. Everyone is trained at a high level."

...

Kalil on Addison: "He's one of the fastest guys I've ever seen at practice," center Ryan Kalil said. ... The speed came in handy late against Detroit when the Lions had to pass. Their tackles couldn't match Addison's first step coming off the edge. Rivera on Addison: "He is speed off the edge guy."

Charlotte Observer, Jonathan Jones:

Horton got the start against the Detroit Lions last weekend, and he played 34 of the 72 defensive snaps. Ealy, a rookie playing in his first regular-season game, had 30 snaps and Addison 28 as they also spelled veteran defensive end Charles Johnson.

...

Of the three ends, Horton might be the most well-rounded, and that helped him earn the start Sunday

...

Addison averaged a sack per 11.2 snaps against the Lions

...

Charles Johnson said: “We’ve always had a good rotation. It’s always next man up.”

If there was a position on this team that you were going to lose a star player for a considerable amount or time due to media bias, weak as poo commissioner and the general uninformed public I guess DE is probably the best. We have a lot of depth and big Frank is coming back soon.

Yeah, because everyone knows star players are not adults, and do not have even the slightest amount of responsibility for their own actions. Its everyone elses fault that a star player cannot keep their own nose or house clean and can't surround themselves with people that don't bring trouble or drama

Panthers.com on last game:

Defensive ends Wes Horton , Kony Ealy and Mario Addison, who recorded 2.5 sacks in the fourth quarter, filled in admirably with Greg Hardy inactive.

"We don't have backups," (DC Sean) McDermott said. "We look at all of our players as starters. That's what is expected of them and that's how they performed. They stepped up like starters."
