The struggle against the 3-4 is real

It was pointed out last year, but maybe last year could have been we struggled against top 5 defenses, ARI, San Fran & N.O and the Seahawks, but the Hawks run a 4-3, but everybody struggled against them

Pitts came in ranked 20th so its real. I think Mike Mitchell had a big scoop on what we like to do, but I’m going to say it and get it out the way just being honest. I expect us to struggle against the Ravens next game, unless something miraculously change. We struggle most in the redzone against it. We can move the ball decent, but once we cross that 50 yard line it goes down-hill. Why? I honestly can't figure it out. The sad part about yesterday, we didn’t even get to the redzone. Yes, we didn’t get to the redzone once against the Steelers. The confusion at the line, the blitz schemes and the smaller pass rushers give our Oline hell. For a start, as I continue to say, we need to hurry up the offense cause we dont have an oline that can maul defenses and because we can't do that, its easy for defenses to adjust to our pace. Cam also needs a lil bit more control at this point in his career. But it wont happen. You're going to get the exact same offense unless we get down. I'll be shocked if the opposite happen and I'll eat crow, but you can bet it'll go back the same if it works

1 game doesn't show anything. They didn't have linebackers rushing the QB when they got pressure our line just can't block anybody. 3-4, 4-3, 46, doesn't matter what defense they run our boys up front gotta block. Make Cam 100%, Cotchery active and DeAngelo playing and the line even just a tad better and we got a whole different game. There were actually a lot of drives where we got a couple first downs but had such poo field position that we had to end up punting, where if we had better field position to start with it could've been a field goal or a 4th down try.

We will never do anything to benefit the offense, ball control and taking time off the clock is all done towards helping the defense stay fresh. Running a no huddle offense only increases the chances of the defense being on the field longer and that aint how Rivera does things.

Couple that with the fact that there was a penalty on first down of five of our possessions.  Also, Cam had 250yds passing with a TD and no picks against the 3-4.  And that was going against eight players consistently in pass coverage.  Your right, cause if we tighten a few areas up get healthy, and we will be fine against future 3-4 teams.

    • And that makes you right.
    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
