Reportedly asked to be released from panthers...

According to Rapoport, after Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said at the NFL Scouting Combine the team was evaluating Smith's roster spot, the receiver asked for his release and refused a pay cut. When the Panthers failed in an endeavor to trade the veteran their hands were forced and they cut him, per Rapoport.

You see, now do you guys see why I said the things ive said about him the last several weeks?! I consider myself a good judge of character, hes always been a diva, petulant child.

If he truly asked for a release, Gettleman would have flat out said so. No reason for him to take the kinda heat he did. Steve has been saying all week that he was fired. If he asked for a release then why would they try to trade him? The article just doesn't match up with what was going on.

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
