Shula, take note

We scored some touchdowns, but I defense kept us in this game.  I hate the fact that we have a guy like Cam, but struggle to score consistently.  Of course Benjamin had a lot of drops.  That has to improve because that would have kept a lot of drives alive if he make those catches.

I love how these threads don't consider the fact that Cameron might be changing the play at the line of scrimmage...

But go ahead and pillory someone who has forgotten more about calling football game than you have ever known....

Cam called a bomb on 3/3 and a run on 3/17?  REALLY???

Even if true, I've seen enough of Shula.  The entire team played its collective heart out today, but matter how hard they play and how talented they are, coaches have to put their team in a position to win.  The two calls that were made that have everyone upset, as they should be, did not do that.  They were STUPID, simple and plain.

The plays that make everybody in our fan base go "wtf was that?!" aren't audibles. You can tell when Cam audibles. You can tell when he's just changing protection with the OL. It doesn't happen often, really.

So why don't you share your CV with the rest of us so that we can know why your opinion on Shula's job is so "on point".

Im sure that it will completely justify what you're saying.

A lot of those drops came on highly covered long developing plays that the defense was ready for.

So its stupid to call a pass when everyone is thinking run?

Please tell me more about this NFL career you have in play calling and why Shula is so STUPID that someone is paying him millions and you...

well not that much.

Shula has annoyed em the last two weeks but I don't get the Shula anger here.

Bomb on 3rd and short and the run on 3rd and long, only really questionable plays this game. First half was lost on turnovers, not playcalling.

Shula's been learning and the offense looks leagues better than it ever was last year.

Still he needs to get stronger and pull those catches in.  He doesn't have the speed to pull the top off a defense, but he's still a deep threat due to his size.  Catching in traffic will be his specialty as a number one receiver.

Shula + cam has to know pressure is coming on 3rd down in field goal range. Why call long pass play (Shula) and cam on hold on the ball. Got to get rid of it. Cost points.

The d stepped up in second half. I did like the hurry up offense in second. A lot of bears were coming up injured.

Your argument has devolved. The minute you say "well you couldn't do any better" you loose your argument. We arnt being paid to call plays but we can have an opinion on who does. There are a lot of coaches and coordinators who suck and are still collecting a big paycheck. You can't use that as a argument.

No, but Cam chose to throw the bomb on 3rd and 3 even though the play called had other routes being run he could've thrown to

Other than having having known two SB winning WR's, I gots nuttin.  Over half the Huddle seems to agree though.  Besides, this is a recurring issue with Shula, including before he even got here.

Just because we won that doesn't mean Shula is off the hook. We can't rely on winning each week like we did today. Alot of bounces went our way just like the Detroit game. We've yet to play a good all around game.

But the goal is to get better each week. So if that's truly their goal then Shula stays behind.

I never claimed my opinion is "on point", nor do I have to have any CV to justify my opinion. I just like to believe that I know football enough to recognize when bad playcalling and bad play design are occurring. I think it's fairly obvious.

If you'd like to offer a counter-point, then go ahead, I'll listen. As it stands, the only defense of Shula is people like you saying "it's not Shula's fault". The things we do well, he calls a few times a game. Things we don't, he calls repetitively throughout the game. Screens work for us, read option works for us, yet we ran both VERY few times as compared to the slow-developing routes 25 yards down field.

It's a fact that his situational play-calling is crap, it's a fact that his inability to call a consistent offense is a hindrance. Just by simply viewing it, you can see it. We go up-tempo in the 2nd half early, we score. We slow down, and sputter again.

TL;DR, offer a counter-argument or STFU, because everything I've said is observable fact.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
