Why would we not go for it on 4th and 1 with 2 minutes to go in OT. Our D cant stop a nosebleed and we were moving the ball well. We wont get the ball back and they have a shot at winning now. Come on Ron, that was just a stupid decision.

 

That was the very definition of playing not to lose which appears to be a philosophy close to our coaches heart.  Between decisions like this and how they have fugged over Hardy because they are too pussified to stand up to anyone calling them names, I wonder why any of us bother supporting this bunch of pansy ass clowns.

Blame our receivers for that drive.  Cotchery can't catch a cold and KB doesn't know where the first down marker is.

I have read a lot at this forum, but never posted a post before now. I can't believe the call of not going for it at 4th and 1. It is just completely unbelievable. I serously question coach Rivera's football instincts. By kicking the ball with just a couple of minutes left in OT, the best panthers can do is a tie. With Cam destroying the Bengals with the run all game, it is just mind blowing. With 4 minutes left in OT, I said that the Panthers now has to go all in and go for the TD, because a kick would just hand the ball over to the Bengals and give them at least a tie since they could run out the clock.

 

For me, this is at the same level as the call Rivera made back in 2011 I think when he used a timeout to stop the clock for the Saints fieldgoal unit. How can you play for the draw with Cam under center? He makes the quarterback sneek almost every time....

 

Ahhh, so frustrating....

Option 2: Kick field goal. 50/50 chance of tying the game. Let the defense do the rest and either stop the Bengals (which they have done multiple times), or run out the clock

A loss is much, much worse than a tie. I'll take option 2 in this case.

Uh you do realize Cam has a much higher % chance at converting X and 2's or less than 50% right...i'll let you look it for yourself...maybe you need to see it to see how wrong you are.

If Rivera went for it and we didn't make it and ended up losing, at least Rivera had balls and went for it. It would give more hope in the future that we have an actual coach on the sidelines. Playing for the tie just unfortunately epitomizes Rivera's coaching style for most of his Panthers tenure.

Cam newtons stats for 4th and 1 is a lot better than 50%. Also, Gano lost us this win. First with the missed field goal, then for not kicking the touch back on the 80+ yard return

I have absolutely no issue with it. I would rather have a tie than a loss - especially when that loss might make the difference in making the playoffs or not.
