You Don't Go For It?

Seriously? Cam and offense was killing them on short yard plays and we play not to lose. That is all. I can't even express how angry I am right now. Rivera went back to his conservative ways and took the field goal. As long as we have that mentality, we will never win a superbowl.

that 4 and 1 punt in OT with no time to get the ball back is the kind of play call RR kept making his 1st two years that resulted in 2 losing seasons

a draw is a loss for both teams.. so he called a play that means in the best case scenario.. we still lose

And if we had attempted and failed, would you be okay with 3-3 as compared to 3-2-1?

What if, on top of the loss, ATL wins? Then we are tied with them at 3-3.

Would you also want us to go for 2 after a game tying touchdown because playing for OT is disgusting and we should be able to get 2-yards easily?

You have no idea what the fug you're talking about.

Rivera gave the team every opportunity to win.

He could have run the ball once we got into FG range. Instead, he threw it deep, and we would've won had Cotchery caught that pass.

I for one will take a tie over a loss any day of the week. Live to fight another day and enjoy the fact that we tied a game that EVERYONE expected us to lose.

I have read a lot at this forum, but never posted a post before now. I can't believe the call of not going for it at 4th and 1. It is just completely unbelievable. I serously question coach Rivera's football instincts. By kicking the ball with just a couple of minutes left in OT, the best panthers can do is a tie. With Cam destroying the Bengals with the run all game, it is just mind blowing. With 4 minutes left in OT, I said that the Panthers now has to go all in and go for the TD, because a kick would just hand the ball over to the Bengals and give them at least a tie since they could run out the clock.

For me, this is at the same level as the call Rivera made back in 2011 I think when he used a timeout to stop the clock for the Saints fieldgoal unit. How can you play for the draw with Cam under center? He makes the quarterback sneek almost every time....

Ahhh, so frustrating....

All the best from Northern Europe

A tie is better than a loss. A tie is what got the Packers to the playoffs.

Yeah it's more of an expression on my end.  Yeah, technically a tie is better than a loss...but it still feels like a loss in a way.  It's because we didn't try to win at the end.  Just weird IMO.

Here's to not losing I guess haha

    • CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep. You start thinking about your plan, taking care of your body, making sure you get your rest.''   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45880676/panthers-starters-play-first-2-preseason-games-says-coach
    • You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
