NFL Informs Rivera that Kuechly Shouldn't Have Been Ejected and Won't Be Fined

Kuechly accidently shrugs off ref.

Ref pauses. Thinks to himself "He just shrugged me off! I'm a god damn referee! How dare he do this to me!" *throws flag* "That will show him!"

This ref should be suspended without pay for a couple games to learn a lesson. Its ridiculous the refs have no consequences for their actions, but the players do.

It was my understanding that the NFL wanted that and tried to negotiate it when the refs went on strike but the refs absolutely would not cave on that issue.

Why would they? If I could make $200K/year at a part time job that would be awesome.

Valid.  Ugh :(

The NFL hasn't really completely confirmed how they choose refs for big games, but this article helps a bit:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/25/nfl-doesnt-always-put-the-highest-graded-officials-in-the-super-bowl/

Especially the end about Bolger, and how he hadn't even ref'd a conference game yet.

Also no one can do back to back Superbowls, so the BEST refs aren't getting in there.  You really have small competition to get into a Super Bowl game/play off game because they have more refs in those than a normal game I believe.

But in the end they truly, really don't have anything to be worried about.  When was a ref fired for bad performance?  I don't remember, if they have, please tell me.  They pretty much of a cozy part time job they never have to worry about.

The refs must be top 5 at their position.

The issue with Bolger is people thing they screwed with his rankings.

Right, and I think that happens.

The fact still is, that's just one game, there is really no consequences for being a bad ref, not anything that REALLY hits home.  Especially since it's just a part-time job for them.  When refs start losing their jobs or getting suspended because of poor performance, that would be different.

I've been a fan of full time refs for several years.

No idea why the NFL can't see the advantages.

Same reasons they don't have a backup ref at each game.

I don't think good or bad officiating actually matters to them. Inconsistent officiating actually probably causes good things big picture for the NFL. Drama, conversation, interest, simply being talked about in fandom outrage.

The NFL considered Mike Carey one of their best officials.

I cringed whenever we got him.

So no punishment for the ref. This is why there is so much hatred for them. No accountability.

Exactly, they make so many momentum crushing calls and let others go.  You immediately get called a chump when you call into question their crap ass calls.  I said this Sunday, damn was Hardy just that much better at getting off of holds?

I guarantee that if it was any other year, the NFL wouldn't say squat about the incident. But because of the negative view of the NFL culture this year, they needed to say something. It involves the defensive player of the year and the coach of the year. These are the type of men the NFL is counting on to redeem itself. Two upstanding members of the NFL, their team, and their community. Two of the best character references the NFL could have.

Can you imagine if Fox News or the US Congress decided to start taking swings at the NFL using Luke as bait? Luke Kuechly?? aka Clark Kent??? Metropolis' last hope????
