Harper next Please!

WOW!!

Why in the fuging world did we sign him for over $2m/year for 5 years? (I thought it was 2 years but just checked and it's supposedly 5 unless that's a mistake) Should've been vet min. for 1 year.

Harper's contract was two years, 4.5 million total, not per year.

highly doubt if DG ever considered Harper more than a temporary band-aid.  He's not a mistake, he was the only thing available in our price range.

Harper is the kind of smart, veteran safety that could feast off quarterback mistakes behind a high pressure defensive line.  That's why both he and Thomas DeCoud were signed.

Unfortunately, we stopped having a high pressure defensive line, and now their lack of athleticism is an issue.

He had a good Dline who got a lot of pressure last year.

And still was the worst safety in the league.

I really don't think we're as bad on the D line as people are thinking. Against good quick release QBs our backfield can't cover that extra second or 2. You can't expect lineman to break through every couple plays and get pressure as fast as a QBs 3 step drop. The pressure isn't there anymore because receivers are open faster this year. I've broken down all the games. That's what I'm seeing. Munnerlyn had good speed and awareness. He lacked height. Mike Mitchell had great closing speed and had great angles to make hard tackles. IMO losing even just those 2 has cost us more than losing Greg Hardy.
