Ron says we could be looking at another OT

Captain Morgan

Our GM tagged one of the best defensive ends in football to try and either keep him around for a Super Bowl run or try to work out a long term deal. How could he have known the NFL would create a new rule suspending him indefinitely?

When he tagged him, I was sure it was either to try to trade him for picks prior to the draft or to sign him long term. We later found out from Voth and others that Gettleman never intended to sign him to a long term deal. So he made the decision to pay Hardy $13 million as a one year rental.

That is the part that's questionable to me. You franchise people to give you a chance to work out a deal, or you think you are close to winning it all as you mentioned. Otherwise, it just seems foolish for a team with the cap issues we had and given our holes on offense and DB.

Clearly, Gettleman shoulders no blame for the DV issue. That's on Greg and Goodell.

I am 5'11.

I weigh 175lbs.

I am available to play LT starting this Thursday night.

Great idea. We should have open tryouts. That will definitely fit into our budget. Problem solved for the league minimum. Why didn't we think of this sooner?

Just thinking out loud, but I wonder if Gross would have stuck around if his contract hadn't been restructured to void after last season.

Maybe he would be gone regardless, but I'm sure it would be more difficult to walk away with money on the table.

At any rate, the loss of Gross left the biggest hole on the team. One that wasn't addressed, really. At least they brought in something(good or bad) at S and WR.

I get the feeling it's too late for a trade. Doubt much help is coming.

No we didn't. Bill Voth has said this 20 or more times. They never offered Anthony Collins a contract or even got into serious discussion with his agent. It never happened. Dave got caught with his pants down on the OT position.

That's because the preliminary discussions looked like this...

DG: This is the range we're looking at to be able to fit under our cap.

AC agent: That ain't nowhere near good enough.

DG: Any wiggle room?

AC: Not enough to get down near what you need.

DG: Thanks for coming in.

So, yeah, no contract was "offered".

Before his situation came up, I didn't think it was a good idea to tag him.  I considered it to be a rental year, and we would have let him walk in the offseason to get paid somewhere else.  We had a mass amount of problems on the offensive side of the ball, and we let Smitty go.  I think we knew Gross was retiring early on, so we needed to make that side a priority.  Giving Hardy the tag is a sign Rivera is defensive minded first, and offense takes a back seat.

Kelvin dropped a TD

That was one play. We should have beat these guys by 2-3 possessions. The play calling was terrible every play. I don't give KB a pass, don't get me wrong, but that shouldn't have lost us the game. We dominated for the post part, but had nothing in the redzone. I symptom of Shula.

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently).
