Jonathan Jones With Interesting Breakdown of Cam's Incompletions

I can get with that...but...in the end it comes down to your last three sentences.  It's hard to make an overall honest evaluation. We need drastic changes that just aren't going to happen before the season is over.  With Cam's contract year coming up, the whole situation is just a head-scratcher.

I do think Cam needs to develop a better short term memory. A lot of this has to do with a lack of communication between Cam, his wr's, and the ever-changing line up of the OL.   We'd be hard pressed to find a guy who likes to win as much as Cam.  Which is good, but he absolutely needs to work on his short term memory when something goes wrong.  It's a gift and a curse.  I'd like to see him be more involved picking his offense up on the sideline after something bad happens then him isolating himself, even though we know it's just the way he deals with things.

In regards to wanting to be a winner, like we all know that Cam was all set to do when he came into this league, do you think that this situation is turning him into a "loser" with a loser's mentality of despair or causing him to "just going through the motions"?  Has it gotten to that point?

One of the advantages of being at the game is being able to see not only where the camera focuses but also the whole field and the route tress for all teh receivers.  I am a big Cam supporter and will continue to be so but the reality last night was that Cam not only tried to throw balls sometimes into double or even triple coverage to Benjamin but he repeatedly missed seeing wide open guys while he was focused on his primary target.  I remember seeing both Olsen and Dixon wide open coming across the middle and Cam didn't even look.  On 2 occasions running backs were wide open in the flat with no one around and again Cam didn't look.

The knock on Cam early on was that he focused on one receiver and you could watch his eyes and know where the ball is going.  When he is playing well he has done a good job of scanning the whole field and finding the open guy or dumping it off.  He has not been doing that the past few games and it shows.  Even when he has time he is not looking over the whole field and finding the open guy particularly if they are coming open late.  So teams are playing man off the line and jamming our receivers knowing that Cam has trouble being patient and scanning the whole field and is quick to lock into one guy which seems to be Benjamin.

He is not doing the things he was doing in the first 2 games and the results show IMHO.

And that is a valid point.  But, I don't think it's coincidence that he stopped progressing through his reads around the same time he started getting crushed by opposing rushers as soon as he snapped the ball.

I've been a Cam supporter, but lets be honest he had a terrible game. Yea he doesn't have talent around him, but he still could have been way more accurate. Ball placement is so crucial and thats his weakness. I love Cam I hope he gets it. I think he needs better coaching too.

Who knows?  Maybe.

That's why I'm not for giving him that mega contract right now, because we don't know for sure.  You can't give that sort of money to any player unless you're 100 percent sure what you're getting with him.

I think that might validate some folks speculation that he might be somewhat shell shocked or trying to do too much.  One thing he still struggles to do is throw the ball away.  When we had 1st and goal from the 10 in the fourth quarter he took a sack instead of simply throwing the ball away  through the endzone.  Even when he is afraid of intentional grounding, which is worse taking a 10 or 15 yards sack which also makes the down count or taking a 5 yard penalty and loss of down.  Seems to me he is trying to run when he was most effective early when he had to stay in the pocket.  While we benefit from his running he seems to be much poorer scanning the field since we turned him loose instead of when he has to stay in the pocket. I don't know really.....

This franchise has a losing culture.  It starts from the top and trickles down.  That's not to say that it is a conscious selection of culture, because it isn't.  But, it permeates the throughout the organization.  I chalk it up to people that want to win, but don't know how to win, and then when things go badly, the easiest way to cope is to "go through the motions."

You look like fiery guys like Smitty...  even he became a victim of it.  He never lost his fire, but when you're the only one that consistently shows you care about winning, it gets hard to maintain over time.  This franchise has a huge problem with complacency and take the whole "never too high, never too low" mantra to an extreme.

The seasons we have won and been successful, those teams had fiery guys and those teams were full of emotion, passion, and intensity.  Our losing teams just look like they show up, play, and go home.

The fact he developed so quickly and has accomplished more than anyone expected at this point would suggest that he has been very well coached and has worked very hard.  Quarterbacks go through struggles sometimes especially when they dont have a great supporting cast.  I think we have to look no further than the offensive players in general and not always blame just him or Shula.
