Screwed on the curly light bulbs.

We got a bunch of "free" ones from Duke. They take forever to warm up and brighten, and out of two dozen we're down to a handful. I'm selectively replacing some bulbs with LEDs soon. prices are starting to come down some.

I bought some LEDs at Ikea. They were about $4. I really like the light they produce. They've made a lot of strides. My bulbs have a nice soft yellow glow instead of that horrible bluish color.

You can buy discounted LEDs from Duke Energy's online store. They're as low as $3/bulb last I checked.

You have to read the package with CFLs. There are the regular bulbs, which take a bit to warm up, and there are the "instant-on" bulbs which immediately light up.

I bought a supply of them before I retired from Lowe's in late 2011 (employee discount), and I still have a couple dozen. Maybe by the time I have to replace them the LED bulbs will be just as cheap.
