Cam is Vick 2.0

Bama Panther

Recommended Posts

Cam appears to be Michael Vick 2.0. Here's why I say that: he has absolutely divided the Panther fan base, and he has set the team back by being depended on for so much.

Some may remember the Atlanta fan base after Vick was drafted. It became extremely divided: those who were Vick fanboys and those who cared about what was best for the Falcons. Initially, Vick was what was best. He made the team better. He made those around him better. Then, he didn't. He got injured. His lack of passing ability started rearing it's ugly head.

Cam has been the same thing. He made the Panthers better when he arrived. He excited the fans and the team. Now you have Cam fanboys and fans who want what is best for the team. I want what is best for the team. If that's Cam, great. If not, great. Either way, it's getting old seeing the same crap game after game.

Is it coaching? Sure. Is it line play? Yes. Is it also Cam? Absolutely. It is so odd. He has shown the ability to put a team on his back and carry it at Auburn and as a Panther. However, it appears that ability is waning. Is it by choice? Is it due to teammates not being receptive to Cam trying to do that? I don't know, but it's an interesting topic.

Another thing is the almost mismanagement of Cam. His ability has led to an inability of the team: doing anything that doesn't involve Cam. The Panthers have relied too heavily on someone who has, for all intents and purposes, regressed in his on-field and leadership abilities. This needs to change.

I also wonder how much the Steve Smith situation has played into all of this. If things did come down to letting Smith go to allow Cam to be more of a leader, have others on the team "blamed" Cam for having some part in that? I don't know and I doubt anyone here really knows much about that. It's frustrating as all heck as a fan.

No, no, no, hell no....

Vick was a runner that could throw, not a QB that could run. Cam passed for over 4,000 yards as a rookie. I doubt Vick has ever passed for 4,000 yards in a season. Cam Newton is 3 times the passer Vick was. But, he isn't nearly the runner Vick was.

Cam Newton's primary problems are his oline, WRs and lack of an offensive minded HC.

I always make that comparison. Vick had games that would blow your mind, but then follow it up with a clunker. He had accuracy problems and never was a very good leader. He was more of a highlight QB than a consistent winner. Sound familiar? Vick, in his prime, was a lot like Cam.

He's a Ben Roethlisberger clone. Not sure why everyone wants to compare black QBs to other black QBs.

The same fools that compare Cam to McNabb, Culpepper, Vick , Vince Young etc will be the same ones to say they don't see skin color. I'm so done with this fanbase

Or maybe you are a Bama fan

Or maybe you're just a Cam fanboy. This is fun, right? Very original by the way.

I was a Panther fan and PSL owner long before I had any connection to Bama. I could not give two craps about Cam playing at Auburn, and I actually commended him on his abilities at Auburn in my earlier post. I want him to be a great QB for the Panthers, but he hasn't been doing that lately.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
    • His daughter's initials are CAM.  Coincidence? I think not
