Panthers officials insist Cam Newton's MNF problems totally mental

if we let cam go at the end of the season it will be blatantly obviously the staff wanted him to suck as much as possible this year to try and get him for cheap. Stupidest poo ever. Take me back to last year

How exactly would letting him go prove that they were trying to keep him cheaply?

Is it me or is there trouble brewing between Cam and the front office + coaching staff.

They left him out there in a blowout and he kept get pounded. And now they're leaking it that he had mental problems during the game and insinuate that he can rally a team when they're down and behind. They're questioning his toughness.

Is this happened because of the contract or did he call them out privately about the offensive line? It seems that Rivera is treating him differently.

It's awful! Throwing Cam under the bus, the coaches can't take any if the blame when they know it's their own fault.

I'm actually embarrassed to be a Panthers fan for the first time in my life and not because of our record, we all know we have had a worse record but because of the FO and coaches! How dare they do this to the franchise playmaking QB, how dare they do this to the fans!

That's another weird thing. I honestly can't remember until this month another time where actual Panthers coaches and front office guys were talking sh1t about a current Panther player. Say what you will about Fox and Hurney, but they sure as hell never did this.

We don't actually know for sure that they are.

It's all still "unnamed source" at this point.

Think you're being overly conspiratorial on the part of the news media. We heard what Rivera said. We know what they told Rosinski. We can read what they told Ross Tucker. Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one: There are at least a few people that feel like badmouthing Cam is the right thing to do right now. Why? Absolutely no clue.

Exactly! How do you expect to keep players motivated and excited to be a panther like this. This had been all the proof I needed to tell me this organization as a whole is in terrible shape! Before it was just talk about how bad we are but when coaches and FO act like this they are all about to be unemployed.

But even accepting that premise, you don't know who those people are.

Evidence strongly suggests it's not coming out of the GM's office as nary a word ever comes from there. And as Biscuit pointed out the part about Shula was simply comments taken out of context.  Add in that Rosinski's reliability is not exactly unquestionable.

As mentioned before, I think if there is an ultimate source found, it's either going to be a lower level assistant coach or someone on staff that most of us would never have heard of otherwise.

Who besides Ross Tucker is actually reporting this?

He says 'multiple sources' and 'Panther officials' and 'people I trust'.  That doesn't exactly pinpoint anyone.  Nor does it necessarily inspire confidence in his statements.

More often than not these stories tend to come from very minor people.

Cam apologists are so damn infuriating. Yes, he does not have support around him. But this is not a reason for a professional athlete getting paid as much as he does to snowball the way he does and let his attitude spiral downwards during games.

I love Cam and he is undoubtedly talented, but ask yourself in the last few games if you truthfully think his attitude of "here comes another sack - play over" is truly acceptable?

Its not what we saw last year when he had more protection and yes he's still only 25. But personally I wish I could see him act like a leader and raise the players around him when things aren't going well, rather then become insular and let his attitude spiral which undoubtedly has an impact on the attitude of the rest of the team. This is what I think defines a franchise quarterback, someone who can mask the deficiencies in different areas of the field - its why teams pay these guys so much because they mask the need to pay the weaker areas of the team.

Raise the players around him?  Did you not see the game?  The line was an utter disaster, and the receivers are slow as molasses in January---appearing to suffer from the rubber banding effect of certain racing video games.

Now perhaps you are right about his attitude. I don't know. But I will say that I have seen Cam mature both on and off the field during past seasons. He bought in, and you could see it.  But then, the GM decided to protect him and surround him with fool's gold at perhaps the most tenuous time of his transition from flashing promise to realizing potential.  Even if Cam wanted to buy into that, he is too young and inexperienced to overcome such a losing proposition, and you certainly can't ask mature fans to buy into it.

Now I am not going to sit here and say that Cam is an elite QB. In my opinion, there are only four of them. The thing is is that even if you put them behind this line and with this level of talent at receiver, you still do not have a good team.   And no GM in his right mind would put them behind such a line because it would be counterproductive and literally harmful to their health.

So sure, I guess if you disregard the faults of the GM and the coaching staff, then Cam apologists as you call them really can be deemed frustrating. But don't you think that it's just as frustrating to listen to Gettleman apologists blame all the team's shortcomings on Cam, not to mention blaming this shipwreck of a team on the ghost of Marty Hurney?

This whole thing has become a fait accompli of the GM's making, and many many people saw it coming.  Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining.
