The Riverboat is sinking in Carolina

NFC South Losers @ KyleNaughtonJr 3h

Riverboat Ron not going for the win may have been the worst coaching decision he's made in a few yrs. Its a damn division rivalry game, man.

Kelli Storey @KelliStorey

Riverboat Ron is now officially captain of the Titanic.

John Storey @ celticstorey5

Riverboat Ron would be playing video poker for one credit at the showboat lounge if he gambles like he coaches.

RosterWatch @ RosterWatch

Might be time for Gettleman to toss Ron off the Riverboat like at the end of Maverick.

Ryan Greene @ryanmgreene

There is no more ill-fitting nickname for a player/coach in the NFL than " Riverboat Ron " Rivera.

NBC Sports today:

Riverboat is sinking

...

But at some point in the fourth quarter, they started moving the ball. Then, with a chance to play for the win against the Falcons to claim first place in the division, the artist formerly known as Riverboat Ron went conservative again, and a missed field goal set him up for a string of questions about his direction and offensive coordinator Mike Shula’s play-calling.

“To win the game ,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said of his decision to play it close to his jacquard vest.

“That’s the only reason.”

Specifically, the Panthers were behind 19-17, with the Falcons having just gotten a field goal to match their two quick touchdown passes from Cam Newton . There was 2:08 left, and they had the ball at their own 36. Three passes later, they moved the ball to the Falcons 32 with 1:42 remaining. That’s when the Panthers took the air out of the ball, running it three straight times.
