Coaching Failure: Avant was misused

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Avant doesn't get many long passes at all  does he? I don't know about the attempts but his average reception is down to about 5 yds down from about 10 from last season.

While the play certainly has a preferred option the QB in the end makes the decision where to throw the ball. That can't be ignored.People criticize going to  Cotchery deep all the time but it might be Newton feels comfortable going that way.

I've seen both Avant and Cotchery running long routes.  There have also been the end arounds, the flea flickers and such.

Ask yourself this: How many times this year have you seen us go into a third and short with a play call that sent everybody downfield?

We have possession receivers ideally suited to convert those downs, and we're sending them long.  Mind you, all this while at the same time having a line that hasn't been well suited to holding off a pass rush long enough to allow those routes to develop.

It's just piss poor coaching.

Of course he was misused.  Just as Cotchery is being misused.  We should have never been using either one of these guys as a starter.  In a way, this is Gettleman's fault.  It just is.  Avant should have never been signed.

This "coaching failure" is a GM failure at its core.

Bingo....That sums it up nicely Mr Scot,I have never in all my years of playing and watching football seen such inept coaching as i have this year from Rivera and Shula. Can we all say "Dumb and Dumber"?

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
