ESPN article on Johnny Football...

David Fleming is a dumbass.

But to be fair, the mention of him being the "greatest athlete" is far from sincere, and the opening of the article includes this statement...

So let's be clear: Manziel didn't earn this job. Cleveland just ran out of options. Either way, and regardless of whether he or the NFL is ready, on Sunday the long-awaited Johnny Football era begins.

Vick wasn't a great athlete. He was fast as poo. That's it. He was tiny and made of glass. Vick was just a slightly faster version of RG3.

Cam Newton & John Elway are the best athletes I've ever seen play QB.

Tom Brady is probably the worst athlete to ever start at quarterback. That should tell you how much value I put into being "athletic".

Manziel runs like a 4.68 40, isn't one of those cannon-armed QBs, and isn't particularly big.  HOW in the fug would he be considered the best athlete at QB ever?  Lmao

Going by his specs, he's the worst "athletic" QB in the league.  Just as pure athletes... Cam, Luck, Wilson, RG3, Kap, etc. all blow him out the water.

so is johnny football the next andrew luck to take attention away from cam?

don't answer that.

people need to just quit bitching about people not mentioning cam in discussions like this.

Definitely.

What I also find funny about that comparison is just how utterly divergent Luck and Manziel are as quarterbacks.  They have pretty much nothing in common.

    • He really impressed last night. Accurate. Lightning release and throws a ball that 100% passes the eye test. He drastically upped his draft stock showing out like he did on the biggest stage in college football.
    • I am not at all up for under 6' myself. That list is small and unimpressive, I really can't think of anyone but Wilson in that category recently I would call good that I can think of. Murray could have made it work but he is incredibly dense IMO. That's just bad odds. Over 6'? Shouldn't be an issue by itself.  100% on the second part. That's what matters first and would dictate an exception.
    • I’m pretty sure he isn’t referring to outliers. Lamar is the most athletic QB in history, Top 1% athleticism. I get his point, about the ideal QB being 6’3 or taller.  Kind of funny how billion dollar QB needy organizations refuse to look at QB’s they just don’t like. Org’s rather flounder than be flexible. Lamar, Shedur….etc  Both QB’s we could make the argument we could have had.  Shedur would have been a distraction to finally see if Bryce was worth the draft spot (and Bryce emphatically isn’t) but we would have a low capital investment for 2026. Allowing us to invest resources in the defense (Sonny Styles etc..)
