So what does Gettleman do with Cam?

Long term deal, no question. Cam is now in the same situation as Steve Smith throughout most of his career (incredible talent with mediocre surrounding cast and questionable coaching), but the difference now is that Gentleman knows exactly what it takes to build a winning team in today's NFL and can do it.

The fifth year option hasn't been exercised yet correct? So tagging isn't needed right?

He is under contract with 5th year option next season, so no franchise tag until 2016

Don't wait that long, get a long term deal done this offseason

I just hope Cam doesn't expect a mega deal that would cripple the team, a la Drew Brees.

Something team friendly that pays him fairly is ideal. We'll see how it works out.

Cam has exceeded the play of MOST QBs WHO WERE DRAFTED #1 (most were busts), and shattered those of most of his critics (but they are still trying), but unfortunately for him, he is, historically, playing at the same time as Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, to whom he is judged against. He won't get greatest of all time money, which he won't expect, and he clearly wants to win a Super Bowl more than anything and realizes he can't do it alone. He also knows that Luke needs to get paid, too. He'll be reasonable, because like he said when he got his rookie deal, "It's still more money than I've ever had."

Cam's agent, on the other hand...

If I am GM I am first firing Shula and bringing in a QB guru / whisperer and a elite OC. Then I will hold off on making a deal with Cam until I can see what he looks like with competent coaching.

If he still is widely inconsistent I will offer him a fair deal for his play. Dang sure would not break the bank for a qb that hasnt turned the corner in year 5 or so.

Agree. This is pretty much what I was getting at.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
