Cam's Most Important Offseason Yet

Yeah. You can dislike it all you want, but even NFL players being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, etc. etc., have an easier time catching slower balls than faster ones. Throw the ball with the minimum velocity required for each specific situation to make catches easier: it's pretty simple conceptually, difficult in practice, but something the elite QBs are able to do at a reasonably proficient level. Cam needs to work on it.

If you want to see a continued high rate of drops throughout Cam's career just so you can blame everything on the receivers, then there's nothing worth saying to you.

And NFL QBs have an easier time (even the elite ones) when they are given 6.8 seconds to throw the ball as opposed to when their line only allows them 6.1 seconds...

Should the OL be blamed or "share responsibility" if Newton sails a ball over Olsen's head when he was only given 6.1 seconds as opposed to 6.8 seconds? Would the same Huddlers complaining about Newton throwing the ball "too" hard start complaining if Newton is not given the absolute ideal time (6.8 seconds) to get off the absolute ideal pass (one not thrown "too" hard)?

Methinks these huddlers would place 100% of the blame of Newton, and contend that he needed to throw Olsen an accurate ball given that everyone else did their jobs on that play. I would contend that the WR needed to catch ball given that everyone else did their jobs on that play.

There is no doubt that for this team to take that next step, Cam has got to get better in the areas you mentioned. However, without the proper coaching, it is pretty damn hard to progress by yourself. I have zero faith that Shula and Dorsey can fix these issues or progress Cam. There was a thread about 2 months ago where they posted an article about what Pep Hamilton and Clyde Christensen do for Luck. The article went into depth about how they have helped Luck identify coverages and what the defense is trying to do and how to attack it. There is none of that with our current coaches. We need somebody like that to not only help Cam identify what defenses are trying to do to him, but also help him with his footwork and mechanics.

could be true, or they could be coaching and Cam's not listening. Either way, it's up to Cam to progress. Not bashing. Just want him to be even better.

Cam needs to QUIT dropping that left shoulder whenever he passes.i am not sure if this starts with his feet or not,but it definitely causes him to overthrow his intended target.however, creating the proper scheme and acquiring the right tools for Cam is an entirely different story.

The OL has shared plenty of blame for some of Cam's problems. Where have you been?

Please read OP more carefully. I stated that each individual drop I would blame on the WR, but it's also ridiculous to look at the trend and say that Cam can't make it easier on them.

This really isn't as outrageous as you're making it out to be.

In my Hypo, how much blame would you give the OL? The same amount you give to Newton for throwing the ball "too hard"?

So what you're saying is we need better secondary players?

I'm saying Tre Boston played the first one horrible

2nd one....refs let them play. Seattle played it harder and got away with it.

Neither throw was impressive.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
