Ravens tell Smith to take a little time out

This is the type of thing you'd say to a guy who constantly wants to beat down the bearer of bad news.

Steve Biscotti - "We might need Steve to take a reduced role or even retire if we get the right young guys in the draft. Who's going to tell Steve because it's not going to be me?"

Harbaugh. - "Well I'm not going to tell him.....you don't f**king pay me enough to tell him! Ozzie, you're the GM....you should tell him!"

Ozzie Newsome - "You're both are out of your G** d**n mind if you think I'm saying anything like that to Steve Smith! That MF'er don't play and mama Newsome didn't raise a fool."

Harbaugh. - "Can't you tell him to chill out a few weeks or take a little vacation until we figure this sh*t out? I already spend half my day ducking out on that crazy f**ker Suggs."

Ozzie - "I'll tell him to take a break for a few weeks but that's all I'm saying."

This sounds like a lot of interpretation to me. I'm curious what they said to Ray Lewis towards the end of his career.

Steve just had a big year but he's getting older and older. They can't play him that much next year and they know it. The problem is when Steve gets to camp he will probably still be their best receiver. Torrey Smith has speed but he's soft (and a free agent). Steve Smith wore down in the regular season but he was back big time in the playoffs.

Harbaugh was hugging him and telling him how much he loved him 2 weeks ago so to me it sounds like some bitter fans grasping at straws.

I loved Smitty when he was here. I still have all three 89 jerseys in the closet. But I never really understood why we couldn't develop a WR to go with him (Moose was already here prior to 89), and I always blamed the Panthers for that. In retrospect, much of that was Smitty not allowing someone else to come in and share a role that he thought was solely his own (one year with Keyshawn was the closest to a 1/2 WR combo). Then I watched the Drew Carter interview when 89 was cut, and his words and demeanor said a lot (posted in another forum).

Fast forward to the Ravens situation where Smitty balls out 1 year for a 1,000 yard season (thanks to added motivation provided by the Panthers: he would not have done so if he stayed here in Carolina), Torrey Smith's numbers/role regresses, he fights/argues/bullies players in training camp and Jermaine Wiggins of all people, and the countless other 'locker room' situations we aren't privy to.

I think the Ravens see the writing on the wall and it makes me understand that we truly now have a legit GM in Gettleman who will make the right decisions for this team that we, as fans, can't or refuse to see at the time. Gettlemagic is real!

Yup, just like you kept seeing people here saying "But just think how awesome our WR corps would be with KB and Smitty!1!1!11!!"

Yea, we could 1) Stunt KB's future growth, 2) never give Philly a chance to shine, and 3) Not have the cap savings this year and moving forward. Really awesome, yup.

...or 4) make up some poo

Maybe cutting SS was the right move, I don't know but this kind of speculative camel dung and the demonizing of SS makes me want to puke. Maybe he would have put up 1,500 yards and retired if he were a Panther.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
