Rivera up for Coach of the Year Again

Once he put in the right people?????

They became what they were because of him and the coaching staff. It wasn't like he refused to put them in, they either were not healthy or weren't ready. The fact that we won a playoff game starting 6 rookies was unprecedented until he did it. He did the best job of his short HC career. Maybe you should try basketball because you know nothing about football.

Ooh so sensitive.

I'm sorry I must have rubbed you the wrong way but i'll spell it out for you since you seem hellbent on debating this.

Remember when...

Antoine Cason was getting burned consistently and he was left in as the #1 corner while Melvin White (the better corner) was benched for a mistake in the Ravens game.

Coaching decision

Remember when...

Andrew Norwell clearly outplayed Amini Silatolu but Amini got the nod until injuries forced a change?

Coaching decision.

Remember when...

Byron Bell and Nate Chandler were named our starting tackles?

Coaching decision.

Remember when...

Deangelo Williams was getting more carries than stew, when he was clearly being outplayed? Injury to Dlo forced his hand with stew.

Coaching decision..

Remember when...

Seattle was very weak against tight ends and greg olsen was barely used to attack the deficiency? Brenton Bersin was the first read in a playoff game. Remember that?

Coaching decision.

Sure I know nothing about football.

We need to get you a cup of decaf too. Hop off.

Of course everything is ultimately a coaching decision but you are so are so linear I will spell it out for you.

Why did Cason start at all and then get cut before the season was over? Because we had no one better and Norman was so inconsistent and wouldn't play the run which Cason did. Benwichere was a rookie and then got hurt. So would he have put in someone else if he had the choice? Of course.

Norwell was a UDFA with no experience. So we put in Amini hoping he would show up but he got hurt and regressed so we put in Norwell because we had no one else. If he hadn't worked out we would have kept him in until we found someone else. You make it sound as if Rivera purposely held out some guys over others when it was doing the best you could with what you had until you could find someone else better.

And the list could go on. But in just about every case it was the same thing. We switched pieces around hoping we could somehow make the puzzle work in between injuries and poor play. I think people hoped bell would be better on the left side but who was surprised when it didn't happen? Not Rivera who watches film and has a position coach who scrutinizes everything. But what do you say? He is going to suck but we are playing them anyway. Of course not. He is going to have their back and support them especially in public while he gets their position coach to work overtime to try and correct their problems. Coaches only can work with what they are given and that is what Rivera did a damn fine job of doing.

Why play Deangelo over Stewart? Because up until the second half of the season most times he started he struggled as a starter versus coming in off the bench. I already showed everyone in an earlier thread that over the last 5 years he had more production off the bench than as a starter. Next year he will start and Williams will likely be gone since Stewart finally showed he could be count on to start.

And lets finish with Bersin versus Olse.n. That was one play otherwise Olsen doesn't get 1000 yards. Besides that was made by the wide receiver coach and the OC not Rivera. But go ahead keep throwing cheap against the wall hoping something sticks.

For what it is worth I only drink decaf coffee and tea. So how about something more original . It wasn't funny the first time and doesn't get better by saying it over and over.

Wasn't supposed to be funny. I said it because you're aggro. I'm not doing this anymore. I already said he did an ok job. Coach of the year worthy though, no. INMYOPINION. I'll say that again too for ya buddy.

I don't let folks like you aggravate me . You have to be important to me for some reason to even care. No I just try to discuss and educate. I am fine with whatever someone wants to think. I learned decades ago you can't fix stupid or change people's minds when they are already made up. And you are the latter not the former...... It is all good though, no hard feelings...

Worst,..coach,..Ever.

He didnt change my view of him at all since we hired him.

I was beyond pissed that we didnt grab Pete Carroll or Chip Kelly. Fox could have been/should have been chopped a year early.

When our team came out dropping games left and right with Cam doing everything a first pick, championship holder and heisman winner could do in 4th quarters,..just no.

Riverboat made me perk up a bit--- but same ol ron was waiting back there.

We saw his MO again. Start slow, stick with his guys, refuse to make changes until the season looks lost.

Just no. Now we stuck forever with tbe guy.

Just lol. But he's definitely a solid coach. 7-8-1 considering everybody we lost in the offseason, injuries, distractions, lack of chemistry, etc. is actually pretty damn impressive. Plus a playoff win...

Pretty much this.  We let go all of our wide receivers, offensive line had problems, Greg Hardy suspended, secondary decimated, no punt returner.  All of these things should have had us at about 4 wins.

I am saying that Gettleman knew that this year was going to be a real struggle and that he didn't give Ron the players he needed. I think we went into free agency thinking he could replace all the guys that left with cheaper ones and find all these hidden gems like in 2013. But he couldn't and settled for what he could find. When he realized that he was going to stuck with no receivers he wanted Smitty to mentor them and when he wouldn't he let him go. He hoped Gross and Wharton would stay and when they retired he was screwed and tired to find scrap heap players to fill the void. He was thrilled with the job that Rivera did because he knew he didn't get the talent for Ron to run his offense and defense and the team went further than he ever expected and made Gettleman look much better than he should have if we ranked this year. We were a disaster in the making and they both knew it. Ron saved Gettlemans bacon and they both know it.

Perhaps the easier schedule helped.....

How did ole Ron do against those winning teams in the middle of the season....
