Verizon Data Plans

MCP and I both got texts last week from Verizon about their "More Everything Plan" and getting more data...

 

Apparently all you have to do is respond YES to the text and it switches you...

 

 

Both of us, without discussing it, didn't respond to the text...  I'm leary as hell of agreeing to anything with Verizon without checking it out first and he is too...

 

Have any of you done this?

I haven't heard about that one, but...

Wifey read on one of her couponing sites about discounted rates for data plans... Basically, they will give you $10 off your current data rate if you call them and ask them to.

 

Back in the summer, they automatically boosted our data from 1GB to 2GB for no cost increase, and now we get the 2GB for $10 less a month since she called and asked about it yesterday.

I was caught in home internet limbo for a bit this winter, and eventually put a 15gb data plan on my phone.  Something changed in November because my data increased from 10-15gb and my plan dropped by $15.

when I was increasing I did the yes response, as I went up because I had no idea how much data I needed. you just have to remember you have to call and reset it for the next billing cycle if you do not want the increase to be permanent.

Why are you guys paying for those data amounts? I'm on my grandfathered 4 GB for $40, $80 total after cellular cost.

I was grandfathered back to Alltell as well, but I had to drop it to upgrade the last time I upgraded... trying to remember why... something about their plans changed...

I'm going to have to check that out.  I haven't gotten anything about that, but if we can lower our bill, I'm all for it!

I can vouch that if you call them up directly and ask about the $10 discount you heard about for data plans then you will at least automatically be paying $10 less each month.

I was the in the same boat, but they shifted me to the 6 GB/month at 30 bucks which I may try to get reduced.

Verizon gave everyone a free 1GB back a few months ago. I'm not sure about the texting thing though. Verizon is a pretty stealthy rat of a company, so I'd be careful.

OK, so I went to Verizon yesterday about this and there is kind of a catch to it...

 

 

What they don't tell you on the text is that you can opt for $10 off your bill as opposed to increasing your data by 2GB.

 

I ended up opting for the additional 2GB of data, but I figured it wasn't as simple as they made it out on the text.  Sneaky bastards.

 

 

On a happy note the Verizon rep I talked to was smoking hot, so that was a plus.

I was in the same boat being grandfathered with Alltel and when I last made an upgrade my unlimited data was discretely scrapped.

Yeah if you've got grandfathered unlimited data, as I do, the only way to retain it is to pay full retail for phone upgrades so your plan doesn't change. Signing up for a 2-year agreement constitutes a plan "change", and you'll lose your unlimited data when doing so.
